Green seems to be getting all the attention these days, so what's a lonely color like blue supposed to do?Â
Thierry Mugler, the designer behind the cult fragrance
Angel, has created a new ethereal make-up line that features cool blue shades in very unexpected places (nope, not eye shadow, all you 80's fans!):Â
foundation, concealer, and lip lacquer! Says the designer:
Blue enhances the skin's natural radiance."
Um, okay...sounds good, but still kind of scary!
Allure asked a Cosmetic Chemist to explain the theory behind the blue revolution:
Blue pigment counters redness; titanium mica and ultramarine reflect the light."
I'm still scared. But according to the reviewers at the beauty mag, the foundation and concealer gave them a "flawless--
not smurflike--complexion."

I'm going to try this. I have a super-pale complexion. Most foundations/etc are too dark for me.. too pigmented. I've often said that it'd be nice to have something without any "skintone" pigment in it at all. But that would help even my skintone and hide blemishes.
So this sounds perfect for me.
I am Scottish and this means I am very pale - actually if people joke about the Scottish complexion is that it is in fact, pale blue. I tend to use foundation that has pink undertones rather than orange or beige, and it always has to be the palest one available in the range. I'd be interested in seeing what a blue foundation is like in reality.
Blue doesn't counter red; green counters red.
I'm an art major, and basically, if you look at a color wheel and pick a color, the color on the OPPOSITE side of the color wheel counters whatever color you chose. You could say they are using the light color wheel instead of a pigment color wheel, but they are claiming things like "ultramarine" reflect light. Of course it does, but you can also have ultramarine green..ultramarine red..etc. Ultramarine is just a "quality" of a color because it's expensive to use.
Either way, if it works it works. I just wouldn't buy into their ad.
