Steve & Barry's Alert

dhdg

I've been a HUGE Steve & Barry's fan since they popped onto my radar with the debut of Sarah Jessica Parker's Bitten line, & followed up with the super-cute sporty EleVen line by Venus Williams!

Sadly it was announced earlier this week that Steve & Barry's filed for bankruptcy and they plan to close down a major percentage, if not all, of their stores (at press time they were unsure of partial or complete shutdown).  So if you're a fan of the store, you may want to head to one this weekend to pickup anything you were considering waiting on!

On a bright note, since SJP is a serious proponent of affordable fashion and really loves creating & wearing her Bitten line (she wore the Bitten dress in the top pic to a film premier!), there is a very good chance that her line will move to another discount retailer ... of course if any deal is announced I'll let INO readers know!

And the same goes for Venus Williams' EleVen collection -- which I can honestly say has some of THE most comfortable & fashionable sportswear & activewear on the market ... &, like all Steve & Barry's merchandise, it's also just $8.98:

I hope bitten goes to a bigger distribution chain, we didn't have it near NH. I know, glamour fashion capital, but hey, I wanted to see it.

Booyah - believe it or not we don't have a Steve & Barry's in NYC either (maybe there are some in the suburbs, but I haven't seen one yet)... so I'm hopping for a bigger distro too!!!!!!!

I hope her line is moved, too! Lots of places aren't up here in northeastern Maine, but if the store sold items online I'd be perfectly happy :)

I'm not surprised they declared bankruptcy. I remember reading an article about them not too long ago and the point of it was "how do they make any money?!" and they basically admitted they don't make much, if any. I'm all for super-inexpensive clothes, and I love most of what they've got, but I wouldn't mind paying a little bit more for it if necessary.

Lis - OMG I saw that article too!  I think it was an investigative journalist who kept asking how the accounting worked to keep the prices under $9 & noone would give an answer.

well, that explains why the store I have been eagerly anticipating opening at a local mall has suddenly been removed from their website. :0( I was really looking forward to having one nearby!
