John Mayer Wants Paparazzi Laws In Place

I think this is a GREAT idea. We can still have pictures of our favorite celebrities, but the paparazzi will have to stand X feet away giving the stars some of their lives back. John Mayer went in front of City Council yesterday and addressed the new media issue:
"I don't sit before you today to ask that you ban the paparazzi. I'm asking you to regulate it, officialize it, tax it, legitimize it."
It wouldn't be smart to BAN, it's an industry in itself and the celebs DO benefit from the exposure. It keeps them current while they aren't working. Mayer is looking for "an acceptable distance" between photographers and an "unwilling subject."
"It's only an adaptive measure put in place to respond to some of the ways that living in a technological free market can compromise personal safety."
What do you think about this proposal? How about that it's John proposing it? He writes more about it on his blog.
I hope it goes through and more celebs stand up to fight for at least 20 feet. On Robertson, they should have a roped area where the paps can stand, and if celebs want to have their picture taken, they walk by it. It's all the same places anyway right?
This will stop the car chases and the shark swarmings that prevent actors from being able to walk. I think it would be a great compromise!!

It is a total trade off...Millions, cars, shopping, jewelery, etc...It goes with the territory, so if they don't like it, move to an unknown state and drop out of the "fame" race. Live a "normal" life. But they don't want to give all that up, just complain about the notoriety. They wouldn't be famous if people didn't want to see and look into their lives...Quit complaining and shopping on Robertson! Meryll Streep explained it best!
Have a great day!!!
Well, most celebs wanted to be actors/singers/models, not to be photographed all day long witthout any respect. I guess many of them love it, but it's obvious that it doesn't please every celeb. So I think John Mayer's request is a very good idea...
I was so stupid when I was young, I thought the paps would hide behind bushes or cars to take photos, and so they wouldn't disturb celebs, but when I saw in a video what it's actually like, I freaked out. EVERYONE should deserve a private life.
This is such a tough one. On the one hand, I agree with berhard, and believe that MOST actors in particular get into the business wanting and hoping for SOME level of fame and acceptance. Then the ones who are in it for the long haul, for the love of the craft, learn very quickly to stay away from the media circus, and you never see them at the popular restaurants and clubs, or on the cover of every magazine. It's generally the more mediocre, fame-hungry ones who allow themselves to be photographed everywhere on a regular basis. And in those cases, I can't help thinking, oh, suck it up, like you didn't WANT all of this attention! However, there's something to be said for making the paps stand back 20 or so feet. It's pretty creepy when you see hordes of them following one foot behind a big celeb, snapping picture after picture after picture. And the worst is paps who take photos through the window of somebody's house, or into somebody's backyard! That's just sleezy, and basically makes it okay to be a "peeping tom."
wouldn't that hurt your site? every pic that you have on here is a pap photo. They won't be as good, they won't be as frequent, and then so goes your site....right??

I think the point is- don't stop the pics just make the paps act more responsibly and a bit more courteous. He even says they run red lights to stay right behind the celeb. That's very dangerous.
Did anyone see when he hosted TMZ? it was soo damn funny, I really like him, he's such a real dude! It's very refreshing! I think there should be some laws in place to provide for safety, because famous or not, we all deserve to be safe! I think some celebs whine about it more than they should, but hopefully they can come to an amicable agreement that works for everybody.

They do deserve safety. I think the car chasing bothers me almost as much as the "in the home" stalker shots. It's just so dangerous to everyone. Yes, they wanted to be rich & famous but they do deserve safety. :)
sound reasonable to me.

He made a very good point with his testimonial. I like that he mentioned his girlfriend LAX incident. It was a horrible image to see all the crazy paps surrounding her and screaming. I hope something will cahnge.
These celebs do my head in that is the nature of the beast, all jobs come with a draw back but you either love what you do enough to put up with it or you don't. You can't have your cake and eat it too. Celebs are too used to getting what they want at a drop of a hat. So when promoting his new album he would most certainly love to picutred but when on a date he wouldn't. Shove off grow up and take being picutred like a man if you don't like it go be a secretary
JM has a great point. Only selfish obsessive "fanatics" think celebs r just complaining and ungrateful if they dont like 2 be persuded and have a camera stuck in their face. Everyone has a JOB, some more glamorous and public than others but that doesnt mean they arent entittled 2 walk about safe and unharrassed on their PERSONAL TIME. When these celebs go red carpet or a press release they EXPECT to be bombarded..its a part of their job. When u r dining out with friends at a resturant WHY is it ok to snap pics as they eat, when they r trying to leave and THEN to make matters worse, hinder them from getting 2 their vehicles and crowding personal space. EVERYONE has personal space & u dont lose it bc u have a public job! Ppl need 2 get a grip and stop acting ENTITTLED 2 know every facet of celeb life. You PAY 2 see their movies, go 2 a concert BUT thats all your money buys you! The President is a very public figure...try 2 walk up in him, get 2 close or take pics...he's protected and why? Its POSSIBLE he could be in danger when ppl crowd him or follow him. These celebs arent a President but they r public figures just like GB and we recognize there are BOUNDARIES to approaching him in public. Celebs attract all kinds of NUTS so they need boundaries too! Real normal fans are happy 2 see JM at a press release, a studio or a movie premeire. He should b able 2 go 2 the gym, buy a smoothie and pick his nose without someone in his face. WHY would any normal person care to c these day-to-day activities? I know I dont and I feel sorry for them that they have so little of a life they have time 2 wonder how JM relaxes on the beach. Hello!the same way everybody does you big psycho!! I like 2 read up on the latest events but I shake my head when I see totally evasive Pap pics. It really doesnt seem safe or fair. Who has to be harmed or die b4 the govt realizes there needs 2 be boundaries? Princess Diana is gone bc she tried to outun Paps. Paps should have visible ID, stand a certain distance away and vehicular pursuit should be illegal! U wouldnt want a nosey neigbor or stranger standing in your bushes taking pics or follwing u to the dry cleaners or starbucks right? You'd call it stalking, harrassment or invasion of privacy right? SO give the celebs a break! We wont be happy til one of them is dead trying to maintain some semblence of a private life. They cant HIDE in their homes so let them be when they r out & about! Just bc they r rich doesnt mean its a TRADE-OFF. Only the envious and less than wealthy think they should be HAPPY 2 have money and no privacy! Idiots!
