American Idol Cutting Down On Terrible Auditions?

That's the whole reason why I WATCH the audition week. In fact, the audition week is the only time I make an effort to catch American Idol. After the second season, they lost me as a viewer.

I know I am the minority because AI ratings are higher than ever. But those bad auditions are the funniest thing the show airs. Will you miss them if they are cut? Do you think it has something to do with the suicide of Paula Goodspeed?

Rumor has it the 8th season of American Idol is going to have some noticeable changes added to the mix. According to Access Hollywood

  • AI will air “fewer bad singers and more ‘aspirational’ singers” during audition week. (BOO!)
  • There will be a top 36 instead of 24.
  • The Wild Card round is back in full effect. (Thanks to Jennifer Hudson no doubt)
  • NO AI GIVES BACK!!! Wonder why they would cut that? They donate millions of dollars a year because of that night?

The show gave no official comment on any of the rumors. What do you think about the changes?

That's also my favorite part to watch. I don't know why people are so sensitive about that round. After all, it's called reality TV and ignoring that there are no bad singers trying out doesn't make it "more real" IMO. For those who are so sensitive about this subject, maybe they should stop their friends/family members to audition when they know they cannot sing. After all it's a singing competition and anyone who can't sing will be REJECTED.

Never watch that part of the show. So boring watching people who can't sing.

Aspirational? Did you mean inspirational? Or are they going to show more heavy breathers this time? How about a proofread here?

First of all, it was a quote taken directly from Access Hollywood. Secondly, aspirational means ambitious and desirous of success. Look it up before getting rude next time.

I wish they'd just "cut down" on the entire broadcast haha. The ship has sailed.

It is about time, my sister-in-law has tried out 3 times and is an amazing singer and it really hurts when the bad singers make it over a true talent. She said even people much better than her(can't imagine) did not make it and she felt sorry for them.

I stopped watching after the second season because it became a joke. They really need to make some improvements. I always wished they would show more of the good auditions and less of the bad ones. Cut them down but don't completely cut them because they are entertaining. The judges need to stop letting people through who don't have a chance in hell of making it in the music industry. i.e. taylor hicks. Not everybody who can sing can or will make it as a professional singer. These are the kind of changes they need to make.

I'm glad they are cutting down on the bad singers. I don't watch most of the audition shows because it's really boring to see to the same thing over and over again. Do viewers really need to see 50 people sing off key? They're cancelling Idol Gives Back because the ratings were so low last season compared to their regular shows. The thing is most shows would kill for Idol's "bad" ratings. It's a shame that FOX cares more about making money than helping people. That shows raises millions of dollars.

I stopped watching after the third season. I hate the audition part. It was funny at first but then became degrading and insulted my intelligence. Enough is enough, IMO.
