Ellen DeGeneres Plays Matchmaker With Jim Carrey & Jenny McCarthy

Comedian/talk show host Ellen DeGeneres tried to give comedian Jenny McCarthy quite a Christmas present: a proposal from her boyfriend, star Jim Carrey!  Jim was a guest on Ellen's talk show to promote his movie Yes Man when Ellen asked Jim if he had "popped the question yet."

Then she brought Jenny out and started a hard sale.

'You are such a great couple, and this is kind of putting you on the spot and kind of funny -- and maybe not,' she begins.

Then, looking at the couple she says, 'He says you say yes to
everything, and you'll have been together for three years, and we
thought that you should propose to her on the show.' "

Jenny had no complaints and did not disagree.  Jim had a great response.

'Wow, hun, I love you so much, and I know we never planned on doing
this because we didn't feel like we needed a third party to tell us
that our relationship was sacred, but Jenny...' "

But Jim was saved by a doorbell.  A doorbell rang, prompting Ellen to announce "Ellen's 12 Days of Giveaways."

During a Larry King appearance, Jim clarified that he and Jenny have no wedding plans.

As long as they're happy!

Sorry but I thinks thats incredibly rude. Especially to do it on tv. Course with these 2 being such jokers maybe they were in on it. Then and only then would it have been acceptable.

Clearly they were in on it. It was a planned sketch.

I know this was just a "comedy bit", but I HATE when people do this in real life. I've been with my guy for 6 years and we are in no hurry to marry (I was married in my early 20's). Yet people, including my well-meaning-yet-unbearably-annoying family, constantly ask him, "When are you going to make her an honest woman????" ARRRRGH!!

I love these two together!! And I think they communicate well enough and both know where they're at, so they could play along with the joke and not take it for more than it was. I know a bunch of people like them where, after being divorced, stay very happily unmarried even in long term relationships. Some people just feel like it's not for them, and I totally respect that.

I think they were on it, Jenny just happened to know to come out and didn't look bewildered? They are both huge jokesters as is Ellen.

They do seem pretty happy and I guess if Jenny is okay with it then they could be together for a long time! Jim doesn't seem like the type of guy to settle down and marry.

Between the two of them, they have 3 failed marriages. I'd be a little leery of taking the plunge again, too. Honestly, being happy is all that matters. It seems as if they are very happy together, so why do they need to get married? Look at Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russel and Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins. Their relationships have outlasted many a Hollywood marriage. I love Jim and Jenny together. I'd rather they not marry and stay together forever than marry and end up bitter and divorced in a couple of years...lol
