I'm Scared... But Just A Little

A month or so ago, I was having dinner at my cousin's house when he brought up 2012. According to the Mayan calendar, something DRASTIC is supposed to happen - either the end of the world, a spiritual awakening or both. Their calendar just STOPS. There are a ton of sites that break down what it is all suppose to mean and yes, I've been to them all.

The date December 21st, 2012 A.D. (13.0.0.0.0 in the Long Count), represents an extremely close conjunction of the Winter Solstice Sun with the crossing point of the Galactic Equator (Equator of the Milky Way) and the Ecliptic (path of the Sun), what that ancient Maya recognized as the Sacred Tree. This is an event that has been coming to
resonance very slowly over thousands and thousands of years. It will come to resolution at exactly 11:11 am GMT.

So now we know the exact moment when something is set to go down. December 21st, 2012 at exactly 11:11am. Will you go to work that day? LOL!!

Like anything, a few days passed and I let it all go. What else can you do really? I mean, how can you compete with earthquakes, tsunamis and asteroids? Well, now John Cusak is starring in a movie about it and here I am again freaking out all over.

Take a look at the trailer and read some of the online sites dedicated to the story. What do you think about the whole thing? Please tell me I am crazy so I can let this all go again.

And just in case that isn't enough - Nostradamus even predicted a "devastating" asteroid... great.

take it with a grain of salt. if it does, then you have 4 more years to deal with the catastrophes that happen every day. maybe if we can get people to believe this story is true, then maybe they will want to clean up their acts.

i've been trying to live the new year with a sense of hope. hope for us all.

if we were to die today, what would we be remembered for?

I have been watching that for several years now. It's getting closer. The History channel had a big story on it last year. What makes it really scary is the fact that the Mayan calendar has been fairly accurate in what has happened in the past. So I am sorry I can't tell you to let it go because I can't let it go either. I have become obsessed with it.

The Millennium is different. That was because computers were going to go haywire - something that was man made and fixable. This is something that has been predicted by the Mayans - a very intelligent civilization. I know people keep bringing up 2000, but that is not the same thing.

From what I understand, it has more to do with the sun. The Mayan calendar knew of every full moon, season change, solar eclipses etc - it's marked down to the date. I mean 1500 years later - it's still correct!

They tracked forward something terrible happening with the sun. Something about turning in the other direction which causes issues with it's gravitational pull. I need to read it all again when it's quiet - but it has more to do with something greater than the Earth - we just happen to get affected by the issue.

Others say it's the start of a new ice age.

According to some geologists and scientists, we are in the middle of a
deadly 11,500 year cycle when the ice age comes back. The start of the
cycle is marked with a Polar reversal, super volcanic activities,
massive earthquakes, Tsunamis and nasty hurricanes. 11, 500 years back,
the last ice age happened and what we have started experiencing – all
happened.
In the last one year the earth experienced the largest three
earthquakes in the last two hundred years. The under water volcanoes
and earthquakes have gone up 88% over the last three years. The
continental earthquakes have gone up by 62% during the same time frame.
The rate of increase of these earthquakes and volcanoes when drawn
against time is staggering.

It may not be the total end of earth, just earth as we know it. So the human race would be destroyed if this does come true. I think the chinese calendar has a similar prediction if I remember correctly. Anyway, for those comparing it to 2000, this is in no way, shape or form like Y2K. That was because of computers making the change from 1900's to 2000's. Certainly not civilization ending. This is a prediction made by the Mayans who were great astronomers. Also Yellowstone volcano's have been rumbling a lot lately because of a series of small earthquakes. It could be leading up to something bigger. Anyway, I am totally fascinated by this type of thing.

I've studied 2012 for many years and what will happen then will be good.

There will be a galactic alignment in 2012 and this is when we will ascend from the 4th dimension to the 5th.

The main reason there are so many 'end of the world' stories out there is to KEEP humans attached to their fears & material world, so that they won't ascend to the 5th, because you can INFACT ascend already if you just manage to let go of fear.

Fear and religion are the two tools those behind the scenes have used on US for centuries to control us. Whether you believe this, or choose to stay in the dark, it is up to you.

Whatever, we're all going to die eventually, so maybe concentrate on your spirituality, on your meaning of being here? Spread a little kindness today.

Okay, here's the real deal: what the Mayan Calendar really pertained to was the Mayan civilization-- now long extinct. The calendar's final date was not 2012, but a date centuries ago that corresponds perfectly with the sudden and abrupt end of the Mayan civilization. It was simply a prophesy about the Mayan people. There are new age pundits who have capitalized (literally) on the concepts in the calendar, changing and sensationalizing them for their own reasons, probably largely to do with making money and fomenting irrational fears.

The same thing has happened with the Book of Revelation in the Bible. People take these early writings, which evolved out of Babylonian astrological prophecies and lore-- and which pertained to the end of the early Christian civilization and the Roman Empire shortly after the time of Christ-- and misconstrue them to represent the 21st century. (Actually, writers have been doing this for decades, even centuries. it's getting old!) For a good synopsis, go to PBS online and find the Frontline 'Apocalypse' documentary-- it's stunning!

The sad thing about these types of fake prophesies and conspiracy theories -- 2012, Planet X, axis pole shift (not magnetic, but actual), etc.-- is that they distract people from dealing with WHAT IS: from meeting the real problems we face head-on, like global warming, corporate fascism, Codex Alimentarius (draconian WTO food and supplement laws soon to control the U.S.), the economic meltodown, and so on. Also, one's own spiritual development and evolution are put off indefinitely when we are diverted into psychic fear-rand-conspiracy-ealms. Fear of the unknown always makes us unable to go within and introspect. But when we become One with the Universe we find there's not much to fear, afterall.

I was mortally afraid of nuclear obliteration, earth changes, and Apocalypse at one time or another in my life; I know what people are dealing with and how painful it can be. My fears almost paralyzed me. Luckily, I began to see through the mists of delusion and was able to prevail over the mass mind. Reality is freaky enough, without adding any unnecessary drama! ;-p

Best wishes to all who are struggling with concerns about 2012, etc.

Sharrhan I believe I will have to disagree with you on this one. I don't recall anything in history that was recorded quite like Revelation. Nothing that happens in Revelation has to do with the end of the Roman Empire. The Book of Daniel and his prophecy's are a good way to read on the end. Daniel predicted it. There hasn't been a second coming yet and no fire, flames, etc. Just a bunch of evil men.

This 2012 stuff doesn't personally bother me. I put my trust in God, not a Mayan Calendar. He will decide and personally I am looking forward to my time in Heaven.

Actually, there is a great deal of study being conducted on the effects global warming will have on an ice age. Keep in mind that ice age is just a term. All planets go through natural warming and cooling periods, but the warming on Earth has been abnormally high and the build-up of gases intense, so when the planet does move into its next ice age, there is very little way to predict the effects. It is fascinating ,really, though in a frightening way if you really get into it.

Some people claim that an alignment will occur when the sun rises above the horizon on December 21 2012, at which point the sun will rise in the middle of the Milky Way Galaxy, thus causing an alignment between the earth, sun, and the galactic center. This event is said to cause numerous earth changes, however that is not possible considering that THE EVENT IS ONLY A VISUAL PHENOMENON FROM THE EARTH'S PERSPECTIVE, which is caused by the precession of the equinoxes or the 26,000 year wobble of the earth, which only changes our perspective, not the actual position of the earth in relation to the galaxy. In short, there is no gravitational force or radiation to be expected from this event because OTHER THAN THE TILT OF THE EARTH, NOTHING WILL BE ANY DIFFERENT FROM ANY OTHER SOLSTICE.

My husband has been telling me about this for months now, since he saw the documentary on Discovery Channel (or the Science channel...one of those). He's read everything he could find on the internet about it. He says that it's not necessarily the end of the earth, but the end of life as we know it (whatever THAT means!). He had me freaked out for a bit, and brings it back up every once in a while. If it is true, I'm not going to spend my remaining almost-4 years worried about the inevitable. It definitely scares me a bit too, but if there's nothing I can do about it, I'm going about living my life as normal, and enjoying whatever time it is I have left. It's my philosophy even if it weren't for this 2012 phenomenon, since I could just as likely die tomorrow from some other circumstance.

The problem w/ all this 2012 stuff is that is being sensationalized and capitalized on. There are a ton of websites discussing it, and claiming to know what will happen, however most of those are "pseudo science." There are very few real scientists saying that the world will end in 2012. Most of the real Mayan specialists that I have been able to read up on have stated that they have no information whatsoever that the Mayan's thought the world would end in 2012.
Just that their calendar ends in 2012.
This cycle of 26,000 (?) years or so that the websites keep talking about regarding this "galactic alignment" has happened in the past, and the fact that humans are still around now proves that it did not end the world. What would be different about this time around?
Could the Mayan's forsee something new? Possibly, but we don't know. I don't think anything will happen in 2012 that the Mayan were able to forsee, but I'm still a little nervous b/c you never know. Then again, you never know what will happen tomorrow.
My point was that most (I'm sure not all) the people researching and writing most of these websites are not real scientists or Mayan experts. Their info is "pseudo science". Even many Mayan's alive today are saying that 2012 is not the end of the world...just a time of change (from what I've read, but I'm not sure of the accuracy).

1. They Mayans never predicted cataclysmic events as far as anyone knows. There is no "Doomsday" prediction. The only thing people are going on is the fact their calendar ends. The rest is, shall we say, words being put into the Mayan's mouth.
a. the Mayans didn't believe in "endings" They believed in a shifting from one cycle to another.
b. the Mayans for all their perfect predictions, didn't seem to predict the downfall of their ancient civilization as far as I've been able to see.

2. Nostradamus did NOT predict 2012 as being the end of the world. There are several documents that Nostradamus told his son in letters that he did not see anything past the year 3700 (I think the date was) which leads him to believe THAT is when the world ends. he has not said anything about 2012 using that specific date as far as I could see, other than faked prophecies credited to him that were made up by some random person. (Like his prediction that the world would end on Y2K, and the fact he supposedly predicted 9/11.) Both predictions were exaggerated or all out fabricated.

those who are people of faith (Christian), if you read your bible you will see the end prophesy referred to several times... once by Christ himself when he said

"The end will come like a theif in the night. No one knows the hour nor day it will come. Not the angels in heaven nor the son. Only the father knows. Thus you must be ever vigilant and prepare as if that day were to happen tomorrow."

So no one can predict the exact day down the the exact time, since not even Christ knows when God will send him back for his people.
