We Are The Generation Of The Remake

We Are The Generation Of The Remake

I get it... studios like to remake classics. But they never turn out better than the original. So why keep trying?!

I have some great news INO readers. And when I say great, I mean unbelievably upsetting. Take a look at what I just found online:

  1.  ABC is adding two shows to their line up. Remakes of  "V" and "The
    Witches of Eastwick
    ".
  2. Sony TV is working on a show called "Lost in the '80s" which is a remake of "The Wonder Years".
  3. And HERE IS THE KICKER!!!!! Absolutely Fabulous is being remade. HOW AND WHY THEY ARE DOING THIS I DON'T KNOW. But, Fox is responsible and I want to cry.

What do you think about favorites being redone? Even the fact that "Friday the 13th" is in the theatres again annoys me. I mean, we have over a dozen movies under that title and now we are starting over?

Absolutely Fabulous is going to bomb, I'm sure! You can't remake an original that was so well done, there is no room for changes and improvement. "Kath & Kim" bombed because of that reason.

Leave it to Fox to ruin a good thing. They will never be able to subsitute the original Eddie and Patsy. They need to get their own ideas, isnt that what they pay their writers for, to come up with "orignal" hits????

It sounds like the studios have gotten lazy and can't come with their own idea's.Whether a tv show or a movie, the great classics should be left alone. I am just waithing for the day they remake 'The Breakfast Club' I will be so mad.

Sweet Kiddo, get thee to a movie rental place stat! AbFab is awesome! And yes, Hollywood is for the most part, full of lazy, uninspired dorks who can't come up with a good original idea.

I would say "run by" not "full of" ...

I have been blessed to meet many smart, talented, funny, original people in Hollywood. Unfortunately they are still working like crazy to get their ideas in front of people. Or have said f'it to the studio system and are now producing web content.

And my friends that have made it in Hollywood? Mostly my friends with famous (or at least highly recognizable to those in the know) names.

Hmm...

Ab Fab = a British show about a middle aged actress, her crazy drunk friend, and her sane daughter -- hilarity ensues.

Cybill = an American show about a middle aged actress, her crazy drunk friend, and her sane daugthers -- hilarity ensues.

Has no one else ever seen this connection? They ALREADY remade Ab Fab and it ran for like 4 seasons.

I am proud to say I am 18 years old and LOVE Ab Fab...none of my friends know what it is but it's one of my favorite shows. I have all the seasons on DVD. I'll probably give the remake a shot but I highly doubt it'll be as good as the original. The new Edie and Patsy better have english accents...

I hate that they're remaking everything. It's ANNOYING! They need to fire some real writers and write some new stuff and not try to runin the classics!

To even try to redo AbFab, should be a crime. There is no flipping way anyone could ever recreate that magic.

They better not try to remake AbFab. You just can't! It's wrong but I did read somewhere that, 'Zander is executive producing the pilot with Jennifer Saunders, who wrote the original series and starred as Edina.'
At least Saunders will try to make it decent, but they shouldn't remake that show.

I'm up on British comedies and this one is a DOZY! Their going to F this one up unless they put the original cast and theme. together. The america nextworks have no real wit for trying to RE-translate BBC comedies into a US hits. And no, the "Office" is way better in the original. The america verison looks cheeky and way too needy in their casted-characters. "Absolutely Fab" is about 2 washed out Fashion (1 a Fashion editor and the other a old Fashion model) has-beens still stuck on booz & drugs, and living the rock and roller life style as they try not to age - around their family and friends who ANNOY THE HELL OUT OF THEM.ha! my mom had got me hooked on them. She came across them by mistake one day. I've been hooked ever since.

This is a travesty. Ab Fab is a classic. There can be no other Eddy and Patsy. Back in the early 90's, Comedy Central used to air this show all the time. Those episodes are burned in my mind forever. Every time I see or hear of Christian Lacroix I think of Edina and her gaudy high fashion. "Lacroix, sweetie, Lacroix" Bloody brilliant!

Well, the re-make of Ab Fab would have to be really really good to come even close to the original. Ab Fab is a classic and the above posters are right, it's impossible to find another Jennifer Saunders, Joanna Lumley and
Julia Sawalha! And the rest.
