These are pictures in question. This is Miley's Cyrus' blog response to the whole controversy.
Ive also been told there are some people upset about some pictures
taken of me with friends making goofy faces! Well, Im sorry if those
people looked at those pics and took them wrong and out of context!In NO way was I making fun of any ethnicity! I was simply making a goofy face.
When did that become newsworthy? It seems someone is trying to make
something out of nothing to me. If that would of been anyone else, it
would of been overlooked! I definitely feel like the press is trying to
make me out as the new 'BAD GIRL'!I feel like now that Britney is
back on top of her game again, they need someone to pick on! Lucky me!

Pretty sure that when more than one person makes the same goofy face it's intentional, but really teens are not known to be the most sensitive creatures. it was obviously out of fun.
She's definitely making fun, but since there is an asian guy in the pics with her she may not have meant in derogeratory (sp?) way?
Also, her "boyfriend" is too old for her. Why are they drinking also? It looks like one of her friends has a glass of wine.
She IS the next "bad girl" as she calls it. I would prefer to call it waste of space, too young and too much money and no rules.
She needs to hang out with people her own age IMO.

when we were like around 5 or 6 years old we did it for ''fun'' (i would not have done it at 16 ) ... and why would they find it offensive it has nothing to do with laughing at asian people they even did it with an asian guy !!

Making those faces is offensive- just because there is an Asian guy there does not mean it is not offensive... how funny is it that she defines goofy faces as just slanting her eyes- why not pull tongues or something..
It's so strange she is going out with a MAN when she is a girl... my dad wouldn't have let that happen, but then Miley must be older and wiser mentally so she should not have pulled those faces, nor take photos of herslef in her knickers and get the photos 'leaked'.

I'm asian, and i'm not offended by it at all! I mean, c'mon, they're just having fun..i've taken pictures where i'm stretching my eyes so that I don't look asian, does that mean I'm racist?! Not in my book and I have lots of friends who are non-asian and they find it funny as well!

Everyone should be offended like this. Whatever your race or ethnicity is, your ancestors have gone through hell to get equality in this country. It's a lack of respect for Miley and her friends to be doing this. Her blog is BS as we all know. I am an easy going person, but stuff like this should not be done. Especially from a celebrity that young kids look up to. I'm sure she hurt a lot of feelings of her Asian fans.

as a non-asian (sweet kiddo), you may THINK it's not offensive but it actually is to asian people. the slanted eyes, the peace sign, the hand over the mouth, etc etc is a slur against asians.
when i was an asian kid growing up in an all-white community, kids used to do the slant-eyed gesture to me as an insult. so YES, it is an insult.
and in addition, she's also a public figure, and should be held accountable for her actions.
*** it is common knowledge and practice for celebrities to apologize for racial slurs (esp against african americans) as well as slurs against homosexual individuals, and rightfully these individuals do deserve apologies. but why would you (and others) think that asian americans don't deserve the same respect?

you're right, sweet kiddo, i don't know you. however, i find it ironic that you 'respect everyone' but yet you're very quick to dismiss concerns that some asian people share in regards to miley's picture. isn't it apparent by the enormous backlash against miley for this picture as well as the 'mini war' occurring in this thread that her actions ARE perceived as a racist slur? even if you or others disagree with me, then whatever, but i think you should respect the fact that this is an issue of sensitivity amongst the asian population. this entire issue wouldn't be as debated if people didn't think it was not offensive.

What the eff do peace signs and "hand over mouth" gestures have to do with anything? Did Asian people invent those gestures? Puh-lease. Get over it! Peace signs are pretty much universal, and correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that all ethnicities possess hands and mouths. And it's pretty polite to put your hand over your mouth like when you're yawning or something. Puh-lease.

what was meant by that previous comment was that the combination of all of the factors (the peace sign, the slanted eyes, hand over mouth) made it CLEAR that miley and her friends were making slurs against asians. i'm sure you won't be able to debate that fact.
just because i'm asian doesn't mean that i'd stick up for any perceived slant against my nationality- i find it very apparent in this particular scenario that miley was ridiculing asian culture in general.

I could care less about her, but she offended people, whether they are justified or not...They were all probably stoned & clearly they were making fun of their Asian friend (who doesnt care). She is supposedly some sort of role model though, its why she gets paid the big bucks, she needs to either learn to be more responsible when having her photo taken, or learn how to give a decent apology. Just because the Asian guy has a sense of humor about it, doesnt mean everyone else will.

From their gestures, they were obviously doing the whole Asian/slanty eye thing. She never denies that's what she's doing, but she does deny that her behaviour is making fun of someone's ethnicity or could be offensive. I don't think it's that big a deal, but I don't like the fact that lots of impressionable kids might be thinking doing stuff like that is ok. I also thought who does this anymore? She's not 5 years old, and her attitude just goes to show how immature she still is. I hope she still doesn't think this way in 7 years, but you never know, some people never grow up.

What does being a "kid" have to do with it? It is obvious that her parents does not discipline her. She's a celebrity figure and with that comes an obligation to set a good example. Yes, we're all human and we make mistakes - but she should not have denied making fun of Asian people (which she so CLEARLY is in the picture). This is simply very hurtful to asian people and it has racist overtones so if you are really not racist why do it? If it isnt a big deal why do it? Think about how you felt the last time someone REALLY hurt your feelings really, think about that feeling... that is what some people feel like when they look at this picture. So unless you are a racist and want to make people feel bad why not just pick another kind of goofy face? For the people who say who cares if you have never felt the sting of racist comments or gestures count yourself lucky just because you have never felt it does not mean it is not really painful to some of us who have felt it.

oh Miley has totally jumped the shark anyways. Even my 9 year old daughter thinks she's over. It's obvious that the intention of the picture was to make fun of the way asians have small slanted eyes. I think the joke was that all the non-asians made the slanted eyes while the only asian guy tried to make his eyes look bigger and wider... he's obviously trying to because his facial expression doesn't look normal.
