What Does Etta James Have Against Beyonce

I just wrote about this story the other day, but the full quote just came out and it's SO crazy I had to share.
At a recent concert Etta James told the fans,
You know, your president, the one with the big ears -- he ain’t my
president -- had that woman singing for him at his inauguration. She’s
going to get her a** whooped ... Beyonce … I can’t stand Beyonce.”
Um, seriously, why the personal vendetta? Sure, not everyone is a Beyonce fan but why is Etta so ANGRY at Barack Obama and Beyonce?
Where's Beyonce's statement? I'm mentally preparing myself for the catfight.

You are just jealous. She is always being told that she is one of the most gorgeous African American female on earth and you wish you could be in her shoes and have that treatment she get when ever she is told that. If you can't stand her then move on and don't comment on any post about her; otherwise, go commit suicide because Beyonce is very famous and is likely to be heard of all the time so deal with it. Jealousy will get you no where and if Jealousy could get a person locked up, due to the fact that jealous people are extremely danergous, insane, and mentally disturbed in some cases, they might even commit a crime due to hatred towards a person (since most people know jealous others can go to bizare extremes) you would be one of the majority of people to go to jail; quick! Again, you are highly jealous as I wrote. You can't live her life. I bet you are sick of yours and this is why you are wasting your time writing about who you cannot stand,you damn demon. Now, I banish you in the name of the lord!

Reading africanamerican blogs and stuff, there are tons of people who can't stand beyonce. Maybe she is one of the most talented singers, or the talented singer in showbizz. I don't get it, there are people cheering up Rihanna, who is great in dressing like a domina on stage but has no voice at all. I mean okay I understand, why some people don't like the picture perfect beyonce, but come on, at least she can sing. She even made Aretha Franklin look like a damn fool at the inauguration. Although her acting skills are wrack....
I think it is more to do with the fact that Etta herself could have been to one to sing the song she is famous for singing at the ball, but they got Beyonce instead.

The song is Etta James..... she should have sang it. its not like beyonce has performed a monumental song that is her own. think about that...beyonce singing single ladies at the inaguration! She has no real music.

Etta sounds bitter as hell...just because they asked Aretha to sing the anthem and didn't tap her on her shoulder for anything...only difference is, Aretha is still relevant and was just honored for her undeniable voice!...Beyonce on the other hand SHOULD get her ass whopped because NOOOOBODY is perfect! and she TRIES WAAAY TOO HARD to promote that image!...yes she is talented VOCALLY...but acting and all that other mess needs to be 86-ed immediately!

Some *other* people on this site need to get THEIR facts straight. "At Last" was not written or composed either by or FOR Etta James, but in fact was performed by Glenn Miller in the 1940's, then again by Nat King Cole before Etta ever saw it. Etta's quote was "She has no business up there, singing up there on a big ol' president day, gonna be singing my song that I've been singing forever."
It's not HER song to begin with. Someone needs her medication, apparently.

Thanks for the research--I had no idea that she was third in line! I always associated Etta James with that song (probably because her recording of it is inevitably the "first dance" song at every other wedding I attend). Also revealing was Ms. James' comments about the inauguration our (and her) president's ears: I had no idea she was so angry and ignorant (or off her meds).

I do not believe that (a) the President would in any way demonstrate a "crush" on a pop star or (b) that the First Lady would deign to react to any such contention. This is fodder generated by the media because the Obamas' behavior has left the media nothing to criticize.

I think it is totally disrespectful for Etta to talk about the president like that. Completely ridiculous. She is of an age where she has seen first hand the progress that black people have made and should understand better than the average person what an accomplishment it is to have Obama as president. She is being completely petty about a small issue. Etta should be grateful to Beyonce for putting her back in the spotlight. People may dislike Beyonce because she obviously has an ego but I respect her because she is talented and works hard, which is more than you can say for many so called singers.

Etta is up there in age, she just may be cranky. I read earlier though that she did not want Beyonce playing her in the movie. Beyonce should just be gracious and let it go. The sooner it's forgotten the better.

Overblown story about an overrated black singer. The less press we get about Beyonce the better. Her daddy/manager is probably the one behind all this anyway. Typical black behavior even the rich ones can't get along with each other.
I think that was a very ignorant comment, it has nothing to do with race or ethnicity! Perhaps Etta is hurt that she wasn't given the opportunity and if thats the case she should have went about voicing her opinions in a better way, but as for you there is no excuse for YOUR stereotyping and ignorance!

I think Etta James handled the situation so tastelessly. Makin fun of President Obama's big ears? Saying he's not my President. Well if he is not your President why did you want to sing at the inauguration? The fact is she is jealous of Beyonce. Even in her heyday Etta James was a pretty trashy woman (read up on her life) and never carried herself with the class Beyonce does her comments show she has not changed a bit.
The old lady is just jeolous she is not the one who got the invite to sing.
She shows she has no class by what she said to Beyonce. Plus the song is not even hers to begin with!

I've heard Christina Aguilera perform At last she sounded amazing and Etta never commented her on her doing it, so im guessing Beyonce did something to upset her or something that piss her off

Ummm... There is a HUGE population of the United States that CANNOT STAND Barack Obama. Also a big chunk that can't stand Beyonce. She is beyond annoying and totally skanky. And the WHOLE quote shows that Etta is angry Beyonce is singing her signature song: "At Last". What you posted is just a portion. It's not too difficult to understand, when it is in context.

i think personal opinions put aside. does beyonce have a legal right to sing that song? yes. does Etta James have the right to be mad? yes. i have read in several places in seen interviews with etta James saying good things about beyonce and how she approved of her playing the part. i think she was hurt. that's it. im glad beyonce didn't retaliate. she's smart cause now etta looks childish. besides the beyonce diss. was it a wise decision to run down our president. its not like he's setting higher standards. im sure people and other countries calling him the dude with big ears isn't an issue.
Technically, beyonce wasnt really suppose to sing, the president really choose jennifer hudson.... so beyonce was a back up anyways. This is stupid anyways, but i dont think it was right for her to sing her song that she was famous for....
