Update On Natasha Richardson Injuries
UPDATE 2: Ok! Magazine is reporting that she has passed away. I just can't believe this. (Thanks Sarah) THEY RETRACTED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DELETED PAGE! Thank goodness.
UPDATE 1: People Magazine is claiming that friends and family have gathered for a vigil.
UPDATE: Natasha is being flown back to the US. We will get an update on her health tomorrow. (Thanks Kathleen)
"According to the family's press agent, the lady has left Canada around
12:30 today," said Michelle Simard of the Sacre-Coeur hospital in a
recorded message. "We have no information on Ms. Richardson's health
condition, but the family should give more information by tomorrow."

Some sources are reporting that Natasha Richardson is already dead but I am just praying that's not true. Time Out NY gives us some information on her condition and the ski accident:
Although public reports have not yet confirmed it, sources close to
Richardson’s family and friends say they have already been told the
awful news: She will not survive the accident, and is currently brain
dead.This precipitate loss is a terrible one. Richardson was only 45 and had
two adolescent sons; our thoughts go to them and to her husband, the
actor Liam Neeson.
So very sad. :( If there was ever a time I hoped that a story turned out to be fiction, it's now.
And UsWeekly has more details on what happened. They say she wasn't wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
At first she "did not show any visible sign of injury, but the ski patrol
followed strict procedures and brought her back to the bottom of the
slope and insisted she should see a doctor.""As an additional precautionary measure, the ski instructor, as well
as the ski patrol, accompanied Mrs. Richardson to her hotel," Lortie
continues. "They again recommended she should be seen by a doctor."The ski instructor stayed with her at her hotel, Lortie tells Us.
"Approximately an hour after the incident Mrs. Richardson was not
feeling good," Lortie says. "An ambulance was called and Mrs.
Richardson was brought to the Centre Hospitalier Laurentien in
Ste-Agathe and was later transferred to Hopital du Sacre-Coeur."
Finally some good news in all of this. Now TMZ is reporting that Natasha is NOT brain dead!!!!
The hospital tells TMZ Richardson is sedated and suffering from brain
swelling -- but, contrary to some reports, is not brain dead.

I was hoping you would wait on posting anything. Too many conflicting reports and honestly Perez is an IDIOT for posting something based on hear say from another site. I am waiting this out. My heart cannot take it! I really hope she is just going to New York for better treatment..

Perez has posted an update saying Time Out NY initially released a report that she had died, then emailed him again and changed it to "brain dead" but stand by their sources who say she is not expected to survive. He kept the post up reporting her death up but added "according to Time Out NY" to the headline.
So she is not dead, but TONY is standing by the report that she is brain dead. I am praying for her.

I too hope she was just brought to NY for better treatment. Talk about a freak accident. I have fallen several times while skiing. My thoughts and prayers are with her and her family.

Respectable journalism is a thing of the past. Even mainstream news outlets report gossip for fact these days.
They are probably trying to get her to a specialized treatment center that knows how to deal with her injury.
Since when do the hospital give updates to TMZ of all people? All we can do is pray for her, and for her family?

There is an update on Yahoo! news saying she's been or is being transferred to the U.S. for care. Hmmm, didn't want to stay in a country with socialized medicine? Crazy.
I know celeb gossip is just that...but when reporting on someone's wife, mother, sister, and child, I think you'd be a LOT better off waiting for a confirmation before posting any gossip on whether or not someone has passed away. I am sick of blogs posting just so they can have the story first, and then have to retract.
Speaking from personal experience with losing a sibling at a young age, you should really think twice before posting, please out of respect for her family wait until their rep issues a statement!

I respectfully disagree. If we waited for these celebrity blogs to confirm everything first-person, they would be boring and the entertainment value would go out the window. No offense, but not everything should be based on entertainment value. That's the downfall of journalism today. Even CNN has become a freaking gossip mill. When it comes to a story like this, I respectfully disagree. Wait until there are confirmed facts until you post that someone is dead. All due respect.
This is life and death of a real person with a REAL family. I didn't say in my above post to confirm every story before posting. I asked that we have respect for people in stories like this where someones life is hanging in balance. You obviously have not experienced such hardships in your own life and I pray that you never have to.

Of course they are brining her to the US - we have better care here. (sorry Canada - you're good people, we know).
US citizens - remember this while you are demanding 'universal health care' from the government. Our system is far from perfect, but quality and availability of care will deminish under government controlled care.
It's not better health care by a long shot. The health care system in Canada is actually much better than the states, which is why we have a higher life expectancy.
excellent point i was about to say the exact same thing. People in the US have a severely misguided idea about universal healthcare in Canada.... some dont think we get to pick our own doctors (HA!), and that doctors barely get paid anything... (many GP's make upwards of 400k). Of course there are excellent hospitals in the US but the Hopital du Sacre- Coeur, (Sacred Heart Hospital), in Montreal was established by nuns over a century ago and is one of the best hospitals in Canada. Some Americans dont understand that healthcare is drastically better in Europe and Canada because they are very ethnocentric, and lied to be right-wing media who tell them their system is best. ridiculous. 1

Once again, with all due respect, I disagree. The kind of health care that Ms. Richardson can afford to PAY for in the U.S. will FAR outweigh what the socialized system in Canada would provide under these circumstances. Now, she didn't return to be channeled through an ER somewhere, she came back to likely private care. If she had been brought to an ER in the U.S., I would probably be more likely to agree that she could have received almost comparable care to what she would have received in Canada. BTW, I am Canadian.
As a physician who has practiced in both Canada and the US, I am qualified to say that the health care system in Quebec is a total mess. I have family still there and the care they get is substandard.
As the original poster i would like to firstly send my condolences towards the Neeson/Redgrave/Richardson family in such a sad time. Also, my point was moreso that our healthcare system helps people better across the board.
I am also a physician and I believe it is possible she suffered an epidural hematoma. As i am sure you are aware, after she initially refused treatment, and by the time sympthoms had showed up it would not have mattered where she was, she would start to deteriorate quickly. The problem is that with epidural hematomas even if you spot them immediately they often dont show up in scans.

Looks like the family will be releasing a statement Wednesday. They also said the the hospital did not make any statements to TMZ or anyone else. The New York Post is saying brain dead. They propably have some moles with hospital connections.

Whether or not there are moles, it's just morally wrong to take take gossip to the extent of death notices. There's a line to be drawn. Apparently, empathy is not a strong at this site or any other. Either you've never been in the position where you've had to wait around for possibly the worst news of your life & probably cannot imagine what families & friends are hearing/feeling with so many rumors flying. Or you're a crappy human being.
1) No one but you gives a *hit who reports it first.
2) Even if you report it first, no one really remembers when they head off to the million other sites to check out the same info.
3) Why not buck the system & link the craptastic sites who are reporting the death notices, have some balls & buck the system & don't stoop to their level. I know it's hard, but high school really was in the past & so should the pettiness.
Some said that passed away and her body was flown to the US. Her family wants privacy until arrangements have been made which is why they're not making a statement until tomorrow. I dunno, but it is weird to fly someone in critical condition to another country without stabilizing her.
I really doubt they are bringing her back to the US for better care. The hospital in Canada is the best for head injuries. I think it's so she could be close to her family. My friend had a head injury in the US and they brought him back to Canada so the family could all be near him. 5 months have passed and he's doing better then expected and his injuries were more severe.
FOZ NEWS IS ALSO NOW REPORTING IS BRAIN DEAD AND THE FAMILY WILL TURN OFF THE MACHINES. MAYBE SHE IS AN ORGAN DONOR, SO THEY ARE BRINGING HER BODY TO THE US TO TAKE THE ORGAN OUT BEFORE TURNING OFF THE MACHINES. THE FAMILY IS SUPPOST TO RELEASE A STATEMENT TOMMOROW.

She shouldn't die from this? It sounds like she will need brain surgery because of the brain possibly swelling/bleeding and the doctors will need to release the pressure.

OMG I just don't understand what happened to this poor lady! Reports said she walked away from her fall and then went downhill afterwards. It's so bizarre and there had to have been something going on inside her body. But I am not a doctor and have no idea. This just seems so freakish to me. It's so sad.

One of the Kennedy's died from a head injury ( skiing accident=head injury ) Natasha probably would've survived if she had gone to the hospital,asap! The ppl at the resort were correct.

I hope it won't be like Bernie Mac where they kept insisting "he's fine, he's fine," then it was "he's critical, he's not doing well" then again w/the "that's not true; he's not critical, he's fine, etc..." That bugged me so.
I wish people would stop saying "She wasn't wearing a helmet" as though that somehow makes it her fault. I've NEVER seen someone wear a helmet when they were skiing. Who wears a helmet when they are skiing? She wasn't riding a bike or on a motorcycle. I don't know ANYONE who wears a helmet when they ski. It's ludicrous.
okay so you live in Arizona and maybe that's why you haven't seen anyone wear a helmet skiing. Seriously. Never? My kids wear them. I live near Lake Tahoe and I would say it's about 50/50.

It's official. Rest in peace Natasha. What a sad day.... Prayers and strength to her family. Such a beautiful, young and elegant lady leaving a loving husband and 2 children behind. What a great loss. My heart truly goes out to all of them :-(
