Kiefer Sutherland Says His Tattoos Are “Like A Disease”

I am sure MANY people who have tattoos can relate. Once you get one done... you almost can't stop thinking about where the next one is going to go.
Kiefer Sutherland says his tattoos are “like a disease”.
The ‘24’ star marks any important events in his life with a new piece of
body art, and although he sometimes regrets the inkings he generally sees
them as a “nice map of life”.
“I have a lot of tattoos – it’s kind of disease. You get the first
one and then if it matters to you, you get more.
“I got my first tattoo when I was 16 and had just left home. I was really
scared so a couple of friends and I got tattoos as a bonding thing. From
then on, anytime I went through something in my life that mattered to me I
had this desire to make a tattoo out of it.“I have a lot. There are times when it is difficult. When I work I have them
covered up and sometimes see a picture of myself when I had none and think
maybe I shouldn’t have had any. But most of the time it’s a nice map for
myself about the journey of my life.”
That's a nice way of looking at it right? Map of your life.
INO readers, how many do you have? And do you have any plans to get more? Describe the designs!! :)

I have one on my ribs...and soon am going to get a kind of matching one on the opposite side.
The one I have now is the date my husband and I started dating in roman numerals...and the one i'm going to get is our wedding date in roman numerals.
i know it's corny, but better than a name, right?
I have three and just last night I said that I wanted another. As soon as I get one, I start thinking about the next. I first got a star on my hip/bikini line....a year later I got a tattoo in latin on the right side of my back.....and last year I got my favorite-- it's on my left rib cage: Let your smile be sunshine. All of mine are in black except the last one.....there is an outline of a heart in pink at the end. All my tattoos represent something I was going through in my life, so I love them.....and I'll definitely get more!!

I have 6 and plan to get 1 covered up. My favorite is on the inside of my left bicep...2 swallows holding a banner saying "My love, Amelia, my life". Its for my beautiful daughter.

most people with tattoos have said their regret their tattoo at some point or another but since its permanent they just have to live with it and accept they got it done... i personally love bare skin w/o any tattoos.
Not big on the whole tattoo thing but his map of journey and life is a good way to look at it.

i have 5...i love every one of them! i want more!
i have 3 hearts on my lower back, for my 3 daughters. then i had a cross added to it. just reminds me that Jesus is always there for us. i have tigger on one ankle and eeyore on the inside of the same leg. then i have pooh's honey pot on my bikini line.
next one is going to be a taurus symbol...not sure where!
ewwww tattooes are so tacky in my opinion....they looks so dirty and poor.
So what you're saying is that celebrities with tattoos look "poor and dirty"? Are you kidding me!? All that was needed to be said was that, in your opinion, tattoos are tacky. You did NOT need to add that people with tattoos look poor and dirty!!!
That poster had every right to state their opinion. In their opinion, they look dirty and poor. In your opinion, they don't.
What are you, the opinion police?

Considering tattoos pretty much all cost hundreds and even thousands of dollars I'd say they're the exact opposite of something meaning "poor".......
One and done- don't ever let anyone tell you they don't hurt because they are lying!

I have 6, I love them. And none of them hurt! I have a star on my left hip, a heart on my right. I also have a star on my wrist and a swallow behind my ear as well as a dice with the banner "lucky" on my foot and a skullfly on my back. I got the skullfly on monday, my 21st birthday :) Tattoos are addictive and I know I'll get more, just not sure what yet! When I eventually get married though I'll get an anchor on my foot.

I have "Love" in my mom's handwriting tattooed on the back of my neck. Got it in early January and I'm planning my next one! Since the first was for my mom I think this one will be for my dad. He's a Dead Head (fan of the Grateful Dead) so I was thinking of getting a scarlet begonia, because that's the name of one of their songs :)

i have 10, chinese symbols for live and love, a butterfly, a trifecta of wings, chilly willy the penguin, a fairy, a skeleton key, a heart with a keyhole, a beautiful sparrow, and a stargazer lily, all in spots where all i have to do is wear a tshirt and they are all hidden. i love them and each one represents something different and significant. and its very true that they are addictive!

my next one will be script writing on the inside of my wrist. it will say "fear is the heart of love"- thats from a song. i made my ex write me a 5 paragraph essay about what he thought that line meant, and it is more important in my life now than ever before, still love him so much, and its scary to not know what the future holds.

Zero and will be keeping it that way.

Two small ones! One on my shoulder and the other one on my ankle. The ankle one really hurt. I am contemplating having another one done, another small one maybe on the inside of my wrist. Not sure yet. I would have never thought Kiefer Sutherland is into tattoos!
I have one, a tiger on my right hip/back. I like having one and I always think about getting more but I won't, one is enough. Scars and stretch marks are kind of like involuntary tattoos; they are there for the rest of your life and tell a story, just not as pretty.

I go back and forth between thinking that they are awsome and thinking that paying someone to disfigure you is one of the dumbest things you could do. Until I decide between one of the two extremes I'm not getting one. Plus only certain ones look good, like a whole bunch of random ones looks a little odd, but arm sleeves although a commitment look great.

i have 4! 3 of them are Ryan Adams-related because he is my favorite singer times eleventy - i have the rose on the cover of Cold Roses, the symbol on the cover of Cardinology, and some lyrics on my wrist..... I met him 2 weeks ago and showed him and he really liked them, and got one of the band members to take pictures! :P
I bet you freaked him the fu@k out!

i have two tats; my astrology sign on my shoulder blade, and a chinese symbol meaning 'hope' on my wrist. my sign i got done when I was 17 and i do somedays wish i hadn't but it is my sign and not something ridiculous so i deal with it lol hope on my wrist is extremely meaningful to me, never will i regret it. as for more tattoos, maybe someday but not anytime soon!
.:: his heartbeat plays my favourite song ::.
*I* think tattoos are awesome. My soon-to-be husband has 13 and wants more. I have two....a pentaflower (Celtic) on my left wrist and my daughter's name with Celtic love knots on either side on my lower back. And I want more! I, in no way, think that they make me or the man that I love look dirty, poor, or tacky. They are expressions that we want to be reminded of daily and share with the world. Anonymous123, shove off.

My boyfriend is a tattooer, so I am pretty covered. I have full wings across my whole back, roses and a russian nesting doll across my chest, Duchamp's wheel on my forearm, Bunnicula on my shoulder and a bird on my hip. Hopefully one day I'll be as covered as he is. He has a full body suit of dragons! :)
I think tattoos are an amazing art form and a really great way to celebrate important things.

I have a few, my first I got my 18th birthday after my stepfather passed away, got his name in coloured hieroglyphics down my spine (he was an Egyptologist), my second was Leonardo DaVinci's Vitruvian Man on my palm in brown (yes, it hurt like hell XD), and the last one I had done about a month ago now - shows my geekhoodedness - I got the dark mark, yes, the one from Harry Potter, on my forearm in invisible ink (it shows up under a black light).
Love the description about the journey of life. That's how I think of mine. I have 5 at the moment. I do not regret any of them. Most of them have meaning, mom & dad's star signs and one that symbolizes my daughter. me and my sister in law are getting matching tats next, since we bonded over twilight, it's gonna be the chess piece on the book cover of breaking dawn with the ribbon from the cover of eclipse wrapped around it. then my other daughter's star sign. it really makes a difference when the tats you get are special in that kind of way.

I agree with what another poster said...Some days I say to myself I really want one and then the next day I think I'll end up regretting it and think they don't look that awesome anymore. That's why I think it's smarter for me to really think about it because I know myself and I know I'll regret it. I just have to think about it and maybe later I'll make up my mind and will be sure I want one.
I have a tattoo of a butt .... on my butt.
My ex husband wanted the Chinese symbol for strength and power. I told him I'd look it up and take it when we went to get his tattoo. This is after I learned he cheated on me. Instead I found the Chinese symbol for homosexual. :)
I felt much better afterwards.
ha ha ha ha wat a crack up... did he eva find out??????
my husband is a state trooper. I have his badge tattooed on my side.

I have zero tattoos & I often contemplate getting one, but I am still not sure. None of my girlfriends even have any, so its not really the norm in my circle of friends. My husband has a couple & loves them & he would love for me to get one, but he is going to have to wait until I am really ready, if ever.
I have a tattoo of a small dove behind my left ear. I love it. The dove represents innocence and purity and the bible describes the Holy Spirit descending from the sky like a dove. I love representation of my dove.
I have a celtix design on my hip, that was designed and tattooed on my late brother. My whole family has the design somewhere, so it's become like a family emblem. I also have a mantra on the inside of my right wrist and want to get another to commemorate my late fiance ( I know... a lot of 'lates' heh...)....
I love tat's but am very consious where to place them as as a female it can easily look tacky... like the tramp stamp

A woman has natural beauty. If she adds ink to beauty she will just look silly. And cheap. And dirty.
