New Moon Movie May Be Very Different From The Book

UH OH. This means LOTS of angry fans.
Warning, spoilers under the jump.
Reports say that even Rob Pattinson is concerned with the differences between 'New Moon' the movie and the book.
Apparently, Bella takes a more daredevil approach in the film, pushing fate in order to make Edward appear to her.
Filmmakers couldn’t resist Robert Pattinson’s draw, and instead of coming to Bell as a disembodied voice, he appears like an apparition…or like Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars. To which Pattinson expresses some concern, saying, “I really wanted it to be a complete absence. It’s easier to give it more power at the end if I’m completely absent.”
There’s also an action-packed scene wherein Laurent fights back against the werewolves who destroy him in the book.
Additionally, in the book Edward says he will turn Bella into a vampire only if they marry. In the movie, however, he offers a different ultimatum.
Fans, let's hear it. Will you be upset if the storyline doesn't stick closely to the book, or does it not matter as long as that means more Rob face time on the big screen?

I would not mind if the movies were different. The books were just a tad boring and unimaginative after Twilight.
Okay, fans, don't kill me.
I totally agree. Twilight was good but after that, they went downhill, with New Moon being the worst of the series, IMO. So, yeah, fans don't kill me either. It's my opinion.
the books are so much more indepth than the movie. the movie left so many peices missing cause of the time restraint. the moive was really boring in my opion....
i have to agree with only some of this....i do agree that new moon was the worse in the series but it does go uphill from new moon....i think the movie should somewhat stick to the movie just because every detail counts
not beeing closeee to the book isnt that bad.. but its bad if it turns into another story and changes everything...

I actually don't think this is that different from the book. I'm curious to see what ultimatum Edward is going to propose, but as for the fight scene, it's to be expected. I also suspected that Edward was going to be an apparition instead of just a voice, to appease the Rob fans. Overall, I don't think it's that big a deal. Also, in regards to Bella's recklessness, I think it'll be good to see her do some crazy rebellious things, because it'll translate better onscreen. Overall, I'm hoping that this next movie is better than the last, which from the sounds of it, is a definitely possibility.
new moon wasnt the best book in the series true. But yuo also need to think that if edward gives he another choices is bella gonna take it and srew up the rest of the series or is she gonna stick the the plan for breaking dawn and marrie edward and the live happlie ever afer at the end? I mean think about it. i love the series how it is and i think that they shouldnt change it to much. I just how that they dont mess it up!
I agree with Rob that a complete absence of Edward would make the ending when he does appear again stronger. But I will like seeing more of Edward. I don't mind that it will veer off the book a bit... I think it needs to to hold attentiona s some parts are a bit dragging. As long as it keeps to the basic storyline, I'll be happy.

This is so stupid how difficult is it to stick to the book? holy heck the first movie didnt stick to the book completly and now this?? I understand there having to be some changes but comon really?? he's only in her mind. And he asks her to marry him! thats the juice of the next two books!!
Actually it is very hard to stick with the book... especially with New Moon... You see its not just fans wanting to see more of Edward... Its that you actually have to pay the actors playing the characters, and if you are going to pay them, then you are going to want to get as much use out of them as you can. Also some parts of the book are very very boring... mostly just when Bella is alone and just so sad and depressed... that would make the movie become boring and lose the audiences attention... but other than that... I do agree with you that if he doesn't ask her to marry him like he did in the book, it could completely ruin the next two movies...

I also agree with Robert Pattinson that seeing him at the end would be much more affective after an absence in the rest of the movie. The pain of Bella missing Edward throughout the entire novel is the most important component of that particular book!
I can understand them wanting to put more Rob in the film since hes basically only in the last few chapters of New Moon. But I dont think its good to change his ultimatium in the end. Thats the whole point! Its something that shes doesnt want to do and it is the whole backbone of the third and beginning of the 4th book. Do not change the CORE of the book, cause thats when I have a problem.
I agree 100%
I agree with not wanting to change the ultimatum! I mean, it really is an extremely important part of the entire story!
I also agree - Edward's request for marriage is vital to the end of New Moon. It sets up everything that follows.....and needs to be in the film. I just can't believe that Stephanie would agree to anything less....and the playwright would not make that drastic a change. I'm guessing this may be just rumor.
Exactly!! Hopefully it is a rumor and it'll still be in there!!
I totally agree that they should keep true to the book as much as possible adding things or slight changes are expected we don't want word for word, but change to the story is a mistake no matter how you look at it! They will lose fans.

I definitely don't mind seeing more of Rob Pattinson, but I am NOT happy about the change in him turning her to a vampire as long as she agrees to marry him.
i personally love the part where he only gives her the one choice i think it will be ok as long as they dont go too far into it and allow her to pick the different choice!
You had to know that was coming. They aren't about to do a whole movie and only have Rob at the very beginning and the end.
The question really is, what do you think the new ultimatum is?
Maybe they'll draw the college card? or maybe she has to give up Jacob's friendship for good? Other than that... It'll be just a different story that'd be totally made up and not at all what the books dictate.
I knew that the directors and writers are going to put more Edward in the movie. Come on... a majority of the girls are going to go to the movies for Edward. So, i do see why they would want to put more Edward in the film... more edward=more money.
I don't know. I wish that they stayed true to the book. It would be fine if they spice it up a bit, but changing the major components of the book... why??
I would like it if they did some of the movie from Edwards point of view although the movie is made they could make the release date sometime next year and change it but they need to stick to the marrige to turn to vampire because of the next two book plots although I have heard that beaming dawn will turn into 3 movies because of the length
I think the fact of a vision of edward instead of only his voice is just fine, most of the succes of twilight was Edward, but why change the ultimatum? It is one of the things that moves Bella during Eclipse, so no....the ultimatum should stay "i'll turn you into a vampire myself if u marry me first" not some other thing they made up....it's not that hard to put that line in the script.

I do hope they don't make any unnecessary changes like they did in the first one. I was very disappointed.

"he offers a different ultimatum" What is that suppose to mean? I hate when movie execs ruin it .. I hope the changes are necessary and fit with the story! Nothing too cheesy
I am a little concerned about the changing of the ultimatum. The marriage proposal shapes a lot of the next 2 books and shows a very important facet of Bella's character. The marriage proposal is the catalyst for her to truly face her decision of giving up her mortality.

Bella being a daredevil is a huge part of the book. The reasoning that she'll get to hear Edward is the whole point of it all. So how that is different, I have no idea. Seeing more Edward...that's never been a secret of the movie. They've been upfront about that the whole time. As for Edwards ultimatum...well, he did only agree to be the one to change her if they were married. All of that IS in the book, so I have no idea why everyone has their panties in a twist. This is not new information and it's not much of a change at all.
The changes I don't think you're understanding is that Bella will not only head Edward, she will see him aswell... she didn't see him in the book.. only heard his voice.
And they are saying that the ultimatum of Edward changing Bella himself will be something completely different.
Of course people have their panties in a twist... how will Ecplise and Breaking Dawn have a story if there is no marriage proposal..
Before cars and after cars.. Bella's feelings of having a fiance, Renee her husband and Charlie at the Cullen house when Edward and Bella leave for the honeymoon..
Jacobs return..
see its all just messed up if the proposal is left out..
I was on location in New West when they filmed a scene. It doesn't wreck the book, and I am not about to spoil what is done. The movie makes the book make alot more sence, alot of things are tied in a bit better than in the novel.
I loved what I saw on set, and am looking forward to seeing it on film!! :)
you should probably tell just me whats going to happen. cause seriously. as it is right now, just reading "In the movie, however, he offers a different ultimatum." im freaking out.
=)
im not even kidding. you should really, like, email me or something.
that'd be awesome.
The marriage part is such an important part of the books....ahhhh! I'm curious as to how that is going to turn out.
But I like the idea of having Edward appear "in person" rather than just "voice", it makes more sense to do it that way for a movie (plus we get to see more of Robert....geez, I'm 30 years old and a Mom to an 8 year old.....these damn books make me feel like I'm a teenager in high school, so stupid, but so awesome)!
Im for More Rpattz all the way!!! Im happy to hear that he will be appearing more then in the book, am I the only one that found his absence in the novel depressing? All I was waiting for was for him to come into the story again :) I love when they are together, and I was so feeling Bellas heartache. and lol @ sdperilli I know what you mean Im 27 and am in love with the movie & books! Ahh I love Robert!!!!
LMAO! Thank goodness I'm not the only one!!!!
the only thing that bothers me is the ultimatum....what else could it be besides marriage...they shouldn't have changed that
i agree with you 100%
I would be very disappointed if the movie doesnt match the book. i think its an insult to Stephanie Meyer who spent time writing the books.
yaaawwwnnn...I don't understand all the hype with twilight and new moon. I read the first book on a 5 hr flight and only read the first few chapters of new moon. I lost interest. The movie was so-so...it wasnt bad but wasnt the greatest. You girls need to get a life.
Different strokes for different folks....I do have a life, a very full-filling one, thanks. Sometimes it's just nice to find a book that helps escape from life, a very hectic one at that.
Um, why are you spending time on this fan-site/forum if you're bored by the saga? Particularly commenting on something you have no "apparent" interest in seems a bit contradictory. Perhaps you need a more interesting hobby, if you find it so uninteresting.
Why are you even on here if you don't like it?
I think that they should just stick to the books....I love Rob and would really love to see more of him but that is not how the story goes. I like the fact that it is his voice that she hears him instead of seeing him b/c it makes u long for him more threw out the book. You want him to just swoop in and be there. I love these books .I love stephanies imagination and the way she writes and I would not like it much if they did away with what makes the stories so good.Rob is right !!!!
The idea of Edward appearing to Bella instead of just his voice sounds just fine to me ..
I loved that you couldn't 'see' him in the books, it really did make you miss him more, it made it more dramatic and it made Bella's obsession of him not being there more pronounced.
But, I can see it would make for more 'interesting viewing' to see him.
I'm really not liking the idea of a different ultimatum!!!
Part of the romance of the book is Edward's old fashioned look at love, the chapter in which they comprimise is one of my favourites, I can't see that I would like any change to that!! How will they explain the sudden marriage in film 4?!
Why do movies have to change things - Harry Potter; Prisoner of Azkaban - I had to explain the large majority of the movie to my mum as they added unessential parts and missed out huge explanitory parts!
Get some fans in to help out with New Moon/Eclipse and Breaking Dawn - they'll do it right!
lol @ sdperilli - I know what you mean! I'm 24 and feel soooo foolish for being so crazed! I also feel like a teenager again!
um....isn't the point of a book-to-movie deal supposed to the storyline of the book in movie form??!!... wtf?...
i likke rob jus' as much as the next person but it would be soooooooooooooooooooooooooo much more powerful if he wasn't seen..
so yeah, stick with how the book went....
and yes i would be soooooo p*ssed off if they strayed away....
..
>x[
totally agree!!!!!!
New Moon was the slowest moving book of the series. I'm glad I stuck with it because the 2nd half started to pick up and it was great. I think Breaking Dawn was the worst book in the series.
UHH i dont think id mind just make sure the real topic is still in the movie as it was in the book, speaking of the book it wasnt as great as the other ones its like th e least fav. sooo if the movie turns out better i think even twilight book fans as myself wud really like! ;]
its fine if edward appears instead of his voice but not cool that he gives bella a different alturnitive instead of marrige
I really hate that they are changing all that stuff. I hated how they changed Twilight, and I hate it now. I think they should've got better actors. Edward should be cuter. Bella should be well more Bella. I never really saw the conection between Edward and Bella in the movie. They cut out to many things. I'm sorry to all the people who think Rob is cute, but I don't agree. Sorry to the people who liked it the way it was...
TEAM EDWARD!!!GO TWILIGHT!!!
The fact that he wants to marry her in the books is a HUGE plot for the remainder of the series. I don't see why or how they would take that out. That's a dumb decision if you ask me and one of the reasons the books are so romantic and so good. The other things aren't that big of a deal but they should keep the marriage factor in.
I hope the people at summit will listen to us. If they don't i'll still see the movie but I wont be very happy with them. Edward only needs one alturentive thats marriage or it wont be as good. I'm not the only one that thinks that. Signed Edwards#1fan
You know what veronica85 I love Twilight and the other books so be Quit if you don't like Twilight why are you on this site?
When I read New Moon half way through I threw it against the nearest wall and couldn't pick it back up for an hour. I would imagine that without some tweeking the movie would be just as upsetting and unsettling as the book was. And it not like we can just sit in the theater for another year and wait for Eclipse. (I read it immediately after). Thank goodness little things are being changed to keep the already hormonal young girls from offing themselves between movies. xoxo
In New Moon, Bella is reckless out of depression. At the end of the second book it's the Volturi who put a timeline on Bella changing into a vampire thus coinciding with Edwards ultimatum. She has 1 year. Edwards ultimatum was that HE would be the one to change her ONLY if she agreed to marry him first. Bella is the one in a hurry to change but Edward wants to avoid as much as possible. He sets the ultimatum knowing that marriage is the last thing she wants but he has old world standards and insist on several "human" experiences first..college, marriage..etc that way he hopes to be able to talk her out of changing at all. I really don't see why they would change his ultimatum unless it is to bring more attention to the Volutris ultimatum which plays a huge part in book 4. It will be interesting to watch and hopefully not much of a departure to the story.
I wouldn't mind of those changes except for the one about his deal to make her a vampire only if she will marry him. That is a huge part of the books to me and the fact they would change that kinda pisses me off.
UGGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! I do not apreciate stupid Chris Weitz or whatever his name is who is directing New Moon- i don't know and don't care what his name is- changing everything. Katherine Hardwick ruined Twilight and I don't want Chris doing the same. I know he thinks he is improving it but he is NOT!!!!!! HE IS RUINING THE WHOLE STORY! If he changes the way New Moon is it is going to have an effect on the rest of Twilight Saga movies!!! Dont get on my bad side Chris!
okay, i think that this shouldnt happen because the last movie was nothing compared to the book and this book is important. i hate the idea of ppl messing around with my beloved twilight movie. like what the heck?
ok i heard that they ARE going to have Edward say "i'll change you if you marry me first" however, he is going to have something up his sleeve. Like he'll add in something else. So I am a little concerned about the extra thing like it could involve Jacob or something. Because if that little thing ends up being a pretty bigger thing then it could alter the ending which isnt good because there are 2 other books. And how i think it might involve Jacob is he could be like "if you see Jacob again I'll leave you again" or "i wont turn you into a vampire". I think the second one might be more realistic because he wouldnt have the streangth to leave again. even if he is blushing.
The whole twilight saga was remarkable and for the fans who view the 2nd book as boring i myself totally DISAGREE!!. The 2nd book may have not had edward in the mix as much as all would have liked but it held all suspense and alot of keys for the next two books. The whole time waiting for edwards return kept the page themselves turning. If the movie is to far stretched from the book i think it will kill it. The first movie was already in some ways a dissapointment with changing parts and making things that didnt happend appear. Also i think that with showing edward instead of hearing him is a pretty good idea as long as it keeps the suspense of his return the way it should be, and the ultimative proposal should deffinitely NOT turn the story onto a different path then the books. I am writing alot lol sorryy. But all in all im excited to see the way it all turns out on film. ! <33
P.S Dayum jacob looks SEXYY in the new moon haha
this movie is going to be ridiculously retarted compared to the book. the trailor even ruined it.
aaaaaah. I'm soo angry. The director shouldn't have changed so many events. The movie would be much more exciting and suspenseful if some parts of the book were kept in the movie. ARG >.<
I just hope the movie does NOT get screwed up because of this. It better blow our fuh-reakin minds away!!!
I think the movie ought to stick more closely to the book. I would agree that the power and significance of his appearance at the end would be much greater than if he were in it throughout the movie. This is part of what made this interesting! It's so easy to do voices in a movie - and it could give a very ethereal effect to the scenes where she hears him. Also, they shouldn't change Edward's ultimatum to something other than marriage; this was such a HUGE part of the plot line for the REST OF THE SERIES!! It seems such a fundamental part of the story! What is the POINT of changing basic plot?? The movie is already not going to be able to live up to the book (they never really do) - but by purposely straying from the book, they may be digging themselves into a hole deeper than they'd rather be in!! And again, what is the point in changing the plot? They know people love the current plot and they know there are many avid fans out there - so why both changing what they KNOW works? That's just bad business.
The only change I don't like is Edward not asking Bella to marry him. I agree with most of the people on here, it takes away the core conflict found in the next book. Edward wants to get married and she doesn't. They needed to keep that! In my opinion, it is extremely central to the overall plot. I'm supprised Stephanie let them change that part.
i realli think that they should stick wiff the book..if would be so much better..n give the actual reader and even non readers a better perspective of the book and the story...it will also give it more suspense....i was though very upset at twilight...if i hadnt read the book i dont think i would have got the story much...basically they left alot out and idc if the movie was 3 hours long i would have watched it anyways..lol n i think they should take time on the rest of the movies to make them the best...!
Look I wont even go see it i had my friends the last one that came out they all saw it before me jus to see if it was like the book then i went to go see it i loved it but if yall start messing up all the best parts then ill make sure ill tell everyone its only worth bootlegging it... I know your think well this is one person but i work in a industry where i get asked for my opinion allot so do rethink this i feel you wont get as many hits on the big screen as you could cuz everyone will be waiting for another person to say if it was good or not.
I have watched Twilight many times
and read all of the books. I think they
should keep the movies similar to the
books. The New Moon book was really
good and I think the movie will be really
good by the looks of the trailor, but I
would most likely be dissappointed if there
was too much of a difference between the two!
im a bit worryed about when he dosent offer to marry him it will reck the third and fourth book so how are they going to do it ?
if they change anything i really hope they lose every fan they got. catherine COME BACK.....the new director will kill it!
I'm annoyed that Edward wont just be in her mind, but I guess it's not a huge deal. I agree with Rob and it would make the ending better if he weren't in it in the middle. What really bugs me is the end. WHAT ARE THEY THINKING???? HOW COULD THEY CHANGE THE END? That leads into the next two books. They cant make the ultimatum different. It'll be a totally different story. I hope it's better than the first movie. I think they WILL lose fans by changing the ending.
I wish Catherine would come back. She told the scriptwriters to redo the script and make it more like the book. She cared about the fans AND the book. I wish the new director would. I'm upset, especially about them changing the ending. The next two movies will be ruined with the ultimatum changed. :(
i think that changing the ending will ruin evrything..
but im happy we get to see more of rob in the movie :)
this isnt that different. when i first heard the movie was going to be different, i was worried. but i mean, we gotta have SOME edward in the movie! im very interested to hear the other ultimatum he gives. new moon was definitely not my favorite of the series. breaking dawn was AMAZING!!!
I don't like that they'll be changing the Rob thing. I agree with him in that it would be a lot more powerful at the end if he was completely absent for most of the movie. I'm also not happy about the fact that he gives her another option besides marrying him. The fact that Bella is going to be a little more daredevilish is fine.
I would HATE fo the movie to be anything different from the book. It isn't just about Rob you know!! I have read the book and it lays everything clearly, emotionally and wonderfully in it. Any kind of change may change the meanings, the emotion or the plot. But I'm up for changes AS LONG AS THEY ARE RELEVENT AND WONT RUIN THE STORY!! I LUV STEPHNIE MEYER!! 8D
If the new choice ruins the next 2 movies then I'm gonna be mad! And i agree with Rob it would be best if he just stayed gone for the movie not that I dont want to see him its just more powerful. I really wont this to stay as close to the book as possible! I hate to watch a movie about a book that is totally screwed up! Dont get me wrong I loved the movie twilight but when i was sitting there watching it I couldnt help but think what the hell did they do, this part is not like the book. They make bella out to be a school skipper. And plus if you watch the New Moon trailer bella doesnt find out that jacob is a werewolf til after that scene. And he doesnt morph in front of her! I'm starting to wonder if the directer even read New Moon at all! grrrrrrrrrrr
ughhhhh............ this is exactly y i dont like the movies!!!!!!!! they dont stick 2 the book. i mean wat is the point of naaming it new moon if its different???????
I thought New Moon was the best book! Twilight was okay Breaking dawn was totally dumb. I'm dissapointed they're changing the movie.
I thought New Moon was the best book! Twilight was okay Breaking dawn was totally dumb. I'm dissapointed they're changing the movie.
I thought New Moon was the best book! Twilight was okay Breaking dawn was totally dumb. I'm dissapointed they're changing the movie.
i wouldn't mind actually, at least there is going to be a movie
i'm going to be upset if they don't stick to the end atleast. i mean come on. their adding this fight with laurent and the wolfs. plus when edward steps out of a door not an alley and then she runs and kisses him to stop him. and now their going to have him ask bella to marry her at the end of the movie WTH??? they don't even mention the "marry me" issue till the end of new moon when thier taking a vote. i mean add fight scenes fine but all this other junk. yes i will be upset.
i think that new moon could have been better BUT i think breaking dawn was not bad.I think they sholdn't change the movie alot because they will lose alot of sales for people who have read the book(s). peolpe DO NOT UNDERSTAND if they change the movie alot whats the point of the book. i didn't mind the chages in twilight those were little details and didn't really matter, BUT if they change alot in new moon and they're BIG details you can count me out I WILL NOT WATCH, SEE, OR BUY THE MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay I am totally ticked off right now! Just watched the extended new moon trailor from the VMA's and there are a lot of parts in the clip that are not in the book! I liked twilight the movie before I read the book now that I have finished the series for the 3rd time I can't stand the movie! I was looking forward to New moon but now I think it will just tick me off. Since the books are so popular why would the directors even think to change anything. And I'm surprised stephanie meyer even let them!
I agree with everyone who's saying that they should't change the ultimatum because it is SO important and SO romantic! But the fact that edward appears is really a minor change and it is a great one, too. As long as they stay true to the books,I will remain a TRUE BIG # 1 FAN!!! I LOVE THE TWILIGHT SAGA!!!
They should have REALLY stuck with the book because then when we actualy saw Edward it would have made it really good. And as for they change the ending wel just have to see what it is.
