Daryl Hannah Has Been Arrested For Protesting
We don't hear much about Daryl Hannah these days. This morning, I was shocked to find out the actress has been arrested.
The 48-year-old ex-mermaid ('Splash' was one of my favorite movies) was taking part in a protest against mountaintop
coalmining – which sees the tops of mountains blown away to help miners get
at deposits inside – during which a West Virginia road was blocked yesterday.
Daryl – who is a long-term environmental activist – and 30 other people
blocked traffic by sitting on a stretch of road outside a Massey Energy
Company plant, prompting police to intervene.
State Police Sergeant Michael Baylous said:
“Tensions were pretty high. But
nobody got hurt and we're pleased with that.”
The protestors were cited for impeding traffic and obstructing an officer
and released.
Speaking about the mining practice before she was arrested, Daryl said:
“It's not necessary. If you do it wisely, there are ways to use renewables.
It's realistic for everybody.”
The group had originally planned to stage a protest inside the plant, but
miners stopped them from gaining access to the site.
This is not the first time Daryl’s beliefs have got her in trouble with the
law.

In 2006, she was arrested after climbing into a walnut tree in an effort to
stop an urban garden being destroyed to make way for a warehouse.
Speaking from the tree, Daryl said:
“I’m very confident this is the morally
right thing to do, to take a principled stand in solidarity with the
farmers.”
Her passion is most certainly in the right place. And I suppose in her profession, having an arrest sheet doesn't hinder anyone from getting work.

I can't leave a comment on the shampoo giveaway post, so I am leaving it here.
Ladies, when something says "natural" please do some fast & easy sleuthing and read the ingredients! A quick Google search reveals that this "natural" shampoo contains dangerous chemicals like Methylisothiazolinone and Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. These chemicals are in all conventional shampoos and their long-term safety is still being debated (although mounting research evidence suggests it is not).
There are many safe shampoos available at your local health food store that DO NOT have these sketchy ingredients and I would encourage you to suss out these options instead of relying on big companies you are familiar with to provide safe, healthy alternatives that are anything but.
While I realize this site needs to make $, things like this product giveaway and that annoying Secret deodorant ad (the one that starts talking loudly if your mouse accidentally hovers over it) give this site a decidedly corporate look that is a departure from the intimate feel from earlier days. Just my two cents.

I find it very sad that she is standing up for nature and has done "that" to her face. To me, this always seems like a contradiction and leaves me not totally buying in to what she's trying to sell me.
That being said, I do support her cause and agree that there are other options.

I think she looks fine. I'm glad she's standing up for what she believes in. I don't mind protests as long as they're not violent.

I agree with prasadablue. Somehow "natural" just isn't what I think of when I see her. However, I do think that mountaintop coalmining is wrong.

No, she's been an environmental activist for years--before a lot of the new "green" celebrities were even born. And she actually practices what she preaches.

Holy COW....yet another example of a natural beaty destroying her gift. Even from the pictures posted there is a huge change. She WAS sooo pretty, now she looks freaky. Whatever happened to aging with pride? Guess when you have money you are more willing to destroy a face that needed no alterations. Such a shame.
I would like to protest having to look at her face.
She should have been arrested for beating down the surgeon that jacked up her face. Jeepers Creepers!

Why is coal mining wrong?
Mountain Removal is a huge problem, environmentally.
The blasts cause air pollution that makes it difficult for people to breathe. They can (and do) take place as close to 300 ft. from homes and operate 24 hours a day, which can cause cracks in foundations and damage wells. Removing the mountain tops causes flooding to lower lying areas and sludge dams, which leach toxic coal residue into the water supply. The waste is dumped in valleys, where it can completely bury streams. This method has also resulted in a vast decrease in mining jobs for American workers. The coal mining industry is destroying one of the most beautiful, biologically diverse regions in the United States because companies are too cheap to mine using less damaging methods and our government is too weak to impose real regulations. Not to mention that coal mining in general is not sustainable and that coal will not be able to fulfill U.S. energy needs for much longer. Especially if they continue to grow at the rate at which they have for the last few decades. And this isn't just a liberal eco thing. Most of the resident activists are conservative and are trying to preserve traditional Appalachian lifestyles and values.

she used to be so pretty, sad. But she does stands for greater good and that is the purpose of the post , so well done Daryl.
