Leona Lewis Buys A Rabbit From Homeless Man
Leona Lewis saved a rabbit from becoming a homeless man’s dinner.
The ‘Bleeding Love’ singer – who is a strict vegetarian – was shopping in Los Angeles when she saw the man with a white bunny and asked him what he was going to do with the animal, he replied:
“Don’t know, probably eat it.”
Shocked Leona then asked him to sell the rabbit to her so she could save its life and gave him $100, which she told him to go and spend on some food.
A friend said:
“Leona is the proud owner of a new white rabbit called Melrose which she is keeping in her garden. She was shopping on Melrose Avenue last week when she spotted it being kept on a lead by a homeless man. She didn’t think life on a lead was any way for a rabbit to live – then when he said he was going to eat it she knew she had to save it.
“Now it has the run of her garden without the fear of being cooked for dinner.”
Leona - who is currently living in Los Angeles while she records her second album – is a huge animal rights supporter and last year turned down a $1.6 million offer from exclusive London store Harrods to open its summer sale because the store sold fur. WOWOWOWOWO! Now that is dedication!

Uhhhh - are we all in agreement that he went and bought a HAMBURGER with that money? LOL. I mean, did she think he was going to get a veggie wrap from somewhere?

She was more concerned about the rabbit than with the fact that the dude was homeless. Anyone else think that's ironic?

Lol, true! I didn't think about that... I'm a sad person...

I was thinking the EXACT same thing!

Not really, most of the homeless people here in chicago probably make what most people who work for minimum wage do. They hustle corners, stalk tourists, you can give them money but they always hustle for more. its basically a job, im serious. I think it was pretty admirable of her to do this, regardless .

So true.....not to mention the guys is prob just going to go buy drugs with that money instead of eatting. Although I'm not quite sure if I believe this whole story.....come on....where did a homeless man IN THE CITY find a rabbit? ---em's

LOL, tbtrfli! I hope he bought a hamburger, a cheap one, like a $1 one, so that he could have food for a long time!

What's wrong with eating rabbit?
Nothing is wrong, rabbit is delicious roasted w/ tossed green salad, some roasted new potatoes with a light dusting of rosemary; and a bottle of really good red wine.

LOL!!
not to cast doubt on a gossip story, BUT, i spent 10 years working full time at a homeless shelter and have come into contact with literally hundreds if not thousands of homeless men, and I have never ever heard of someone capturing a wild animal on the street and eating it! just think how impossible it would be to find a place to skin, clean, and cook a whole rabbit if you were homeless in a big city...i call BS on this story...but then again we like to believe anything that makes celebrities seem better than the rest of us.

Ah, the celebs and their love of animals.... always a nice little story to get your face into the papers.
Wow... I was more shocked/impressed by the fact that she turned on $1.6 million DOLLARS just to stand by her principles... I love animals but for $1.6 million I wouldn't mind opening a store... I could use that money to do so much good.
Anyway the rabbit story was funny lol...

It doesn't make any sense in my head:-)
If the story is true then good for all of them: she saved the rabbit, homeless guy got money for a food

i don't understand how he got the rabbit, but good for her for standing up for what she believes in and helping the man out at the same time. i really like leona, she seems very real and seems to have a good head on her shoulders

Good for her! If it's true, then the man got some money and the rabbit got to live. I don't know why people need to be so cynical when it comes to those who support animal rights. I think it probably has to do more with their own shame/feeling the need to justify what they eat (often with really stupid jokes like the BACON! meme. Ugh).
The whole "she caress more about animals than she does about people" thing is such crap. I'm sure she cares plenty about both--they're not mutually exclusive. What was she supposed to do? Take the guy home with her and keep him in her garden? She gave him $100, which is about half the money a person can get on welfare in the state of CA in a month.
She seems like a lovely person and this was a perfectly kind thing to do.

I used to have a pet rabbit so I commend her for this act. However, having it live in your garden the rabbit will probably scamper off and meet a worse fate of being hit by a car. Hopefully she at least set up a large hutch for Melrose to protect him. He obviously hasn't been in the wild so he wouldn't know how to fend out there with those crazy wild rabbits.

where did he get the rabbit from?

her intentions were so sweet. :))
I think that is quite honorable of Leona to save the rabbit and give it a wonderful new home. Sometimes people get too big headed when they have money and forget about the small things and I think that is totally wonderful of her. I think it's even more awesome that she turned the offer from Harrods because they sell fur. Way to go Leona wish everyone was as wonderful as you.
Nice to see someone who stands by her principles, rather than just preaching or posing nude for peta. :P
I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don't know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.
