Paula Abdul Quits American Idol - Makes Announcement On Twitter

Paula Abdul has announced on her Twitter page she will not be returning to the judging panel of American Idol.

Oh my goodness!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The 47 year old has been in negotiations with TV executives to renew her contract for series' 2010 season, alongside Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi.
She reportedly demanded $20 million from bosses and they said no...

Here is what she wrote on Twitter:

"With sadness in my heart, I've decided not to return to IDOL. I'll miss nurturing all the new talent, but most of all being a part of a show that I helped from day1 become an international phenomenon.

"What I want to say most, is how much I appreciate the undying support and enormous love that you have showered upon me. It truly has been breathtaking, especially over the past month.

"I do without any doubt have the BEST fans in the entire world and I love you all."

Is this a game of MAJOR hard ball? Or is Paula really done? American Idol makes hundreds of millions of dollars. Do you think they should just cough up the dough?

Paula Abdul has been an important part of the American Idol
family over the last eight seasons and we are saddened that she has
decided not to return to the show,” FOX TV says in a statement. “While
Paula will not be continuing with us, she’s a tremendous talent and we
wish her the best.”

So that's it! They aren't going to fight for her!! I wonder if she is upset she asked for so much...

if I were her I would have taken what they offered...my guess is that she will fade into the background in about 2 years or so....American Idol pulled her out of obscurity. I think she has made a huge mistake. Someone has told her she is worth more to Fox than what she really was.

She's a silly woman. The top rated show on TV and she walks. She's not as important as Simon - far from it. Now what is she going to do? Silly, very silly. losethatgirl blog

If she's not on this show, what will she do? She should be thankful she has such a high paying job considering she's a nut job.

i feel totally different than you guys about this. i was a paula fan before idol and she was def relevant. what about her ground breaking cat video with the tap dancing???? what about rhythm nation??? don't erase paula like that, not fair. idol is no longer cutting edge in my opinion. so now i am waiting anxiously to see what she will bring us next. matter of fact if nbc has any brains at all they will find out exactly what she wants to do next and then give her the time slot opposite idol. i would tune in to see what entertainment venue paula has chose for us this time. i'm kinda bored with it all and if she is too, then????? yeah for us..........bring on the paula i am ready for the next chapter in this girls career............forever and ever.

To be honest--I think she was wasted brain matter on that show. Seriously, she didn't contribute much except to rally around the people who should never have been chosen in the first place. And now the stage is set for the Ryan Seacrest/Simon Cowell hour. I'm still not going to watch, but it is time to mix it up to keep it interesting.

I didn't watch AI just because I couldn't stand Paula. Now maybe I can watch.

I feel badly for her. She was a key component of that show, like her or not. I think they treated her badly and disrespectfully. I think they planned this all along when they brought Kara on board last year. Why aren't Simon, Randy or Ryan easily replaceable like she was? It's the good ole' boys club. Why shouldn't she make comparable pay? I think she is entitled after all those years?

It must be nice to have sooooooooo much money that you can turn down and 8 figure salary because of pride. Who cares what everyone else on the show is making? The public will never really know anyway, as you can't believe a word you read in most tabloids or magazines. She apparently has crippling stage fright so she can perform live again, so there goes any album she might do. She's no actress. What the heck is she going to do instead of AI?

All that being said I think she added something to the show that will be missed and I didn't think Kara added anything. As a matter of fact I changed the channel every time she gave her opinion on the performers. Not to mention the horrible song she wrote for the final performances, really really bad, so bad they cut it from the AI tour. Bring Paula back Fox, you have enough money to make all of the judges happy.

I think Paula helped make the show what it was. She gave you someone to hate or someone to cheer for. Whether you liked her or not she was and is a HUGE part of the show. She deserves more than 2 million of a show that makes at least 100 million a season.
I agree with the previous poster that the show is becoming less and less relevant, and adding Kara did not help.
Ryan Seacrest annoys he doo - doo out of me, can't we get rid of him ;0)

Shame on American Idol...Paula Abdul was the heart of the show; funny, silly at times, and always supportive of the contestents. As a former singer, dancer, and choreographer, Paula Abdul is the only one of the judges that can really relate to the contestents. Let Simon or Randy get up and sing a song and let's see how much talent they have and how we would rate their performance. Being a producer is very different than being a performer. As for Kara D. (who I had never heard of until last season), she lacks the warmth and support given by Paula. Although she may be a very nice person she comes off as a major B.... and as for her cat fight with bikini girl...that reminds me of some of my "catty" fourth grade female students. Kara gives a lot of tough criticism but obviously she cannot handle taking any criticism; very unprofessional. Wake up, American Idol..you had a winning combination that became an International hit, give Paula a salary comparable to her male co-judges. I have watched this show for the last three years but sad to say, I see American Idol losing a big part its appeal if they lose Paula Abdul.
