Miley Cyrus Causes More Controversy With Pole Dancing At Teen Choice Awards
I think all of Miley Cyrus' problems come down to bad management. She needs to hire a team that will recognize that the singer is not of age. It doesn't matter if sex sells. It doesn't matter if it will help boost her career - the fact remains that Miley is a MINOR.
During her Teen Choice Awards performance, Miley took to a pole. Yup, you heard me. She pole danced for all the other little minors in the audience and now the community is outraged. Video here.
Don't get me wrong, it wasn't like the girl was flipping around upside down. However, the movement was enough to cause controversy.
Everyone was asked for a comment (Fox, Miley's team, Disney) and only Disney responded... with a no comment.
"Hannah Montana," said, "Disney Channel won't be commenting on that performance, although parents can rest assured that all content presented on the Disney Channel is age-appropriate for our audience - kids 6-14 - and consistent with what our brand values are.
Parents - what do you think about the performance? Is everything being blown out of proportion? Or does Miley need to really tone it down?

Has anyone watched the video of this??? Because she wasn't pole dancing at all. She was using the pole to support herself while the cart rolled around the stage. Jesus people lighten up on the girl. Everyone always looks for controversy........
I agree, she wasn't sliding down the pole or twirling around it. Everybody just loves to bust this girl for everything she does. I for one enjoyed the performance and I like her, she's doing nothing wrong & I'm a 19 year old girl and even I see it wasn't inappropriate.

Of course the viewers and their parents are concerned and outraged. It's common sense that a 16 yr old and stripper pole mounted on an ice cream cart do not belong with one another.
The real problem is that Miley and her parents both fail to recognize the impropriety of their decisions and actions. We really have become a ProstiTot Society and people like Miley & family help to perpetuate these horrible images of pop culture.

As soon as she came on stage her legs were wide open in the most inappropriate way and then her choreography was just not appropriate for her age or the demographic she appeals to. I was embarrassed that my kids were watching it so I changed the station briefly.
In order for parents to effectively manage their kid’s careers they cannot be famewhores. If they are then they tend not to make sound parenting or management decisions for their children. They want to be their kid’s friends, they don't want to disappoint out of fear of not being included so they don't guide properly. They make excuses for their children and defend bad behavior (Dina Lohan comes to mind). Miley’s parents Billy Ray and Tish strike me as those types. The fact that they approved of their very underage daughter dating a 20 year old underwear model shows me they have no boundaries and restrictions for her. I think Miley’s only saving grace is the Disney Machine support that she has. This is not the first time these types of over sexualized issues have come up with Miley Cyrus. You would think if she had anyone competent around her it would have been nipped in the bud a long time ago. Expect a defense of excuses from her parents because I too saw them in the audience cheering on that inappropriate behavior.

I think she and her team probably wanted to do more with that pole but knew that this controversy would happen. The point is, that it is sexual and this is wrong for a minor. Why did she have that ice cream cart as a prop, why did she have to stand on it and hold onto a pole, the ice cream cart didn't have to be in the show, there was no reason for it.

No she wasnt stripping... but did she NEED a pole mounted on top of an ice cream cart while dancing, and wearing a mini barely revealing vagina skirt? That was not pole dancing. As a mother of 2 I do admit it was alittle seductive some of the moves and also the way she was dressed but I think the pole was mainly there for balance.

Hello! The cart was moving hence the need for something to hold onto! This is completely blown out of proportion. Just because she's holding onto a pole and is moving (only a little) while up there, does not mean she's dancing on a stripper pole.

she was not pole dancing. she was not shaking her ass in people's face, or hanging upside down, or sliding down it.. she was holding on to it while the cart was being pushed. people get way to uptight about things now a days. she needs to tone it down. i know it's all a performance and she's having fun but she'll have time for that in a couple of years. the pole was really unnecessary.
I have 11 and 13 year-old daughters and know how badly the 13 year-old, in particular, wants to grow up. They are often exposed to things that are not age appropriate, but it simply leads to a discussion of what WE feel is right and wrong. I keep reminding my daughters that there is plenty of time to be an adult and they should enjoy their childhoods as long as they can. (I know they probably think I'm full of it, but that's o.k.) I'm not a prude, but anyone who thinks that performance is age-appropriate is delusional. I don't care if it sells or not.
For a 16 year old girl who is supposed to be a "role model" for thousands of young girls around the world her outfits and dancing is disgraceful. her parents and team need to realize the example shes setting for girls out there. i never wouldve made it out the house dressed like that at 16! shes becoming another britney and lindsay and its a shame!

Why do her parents allow this? I saw a picture recently of her little sister posing next to some other young girls all hanging on a stripper pole. Obviously her parents raise their children different than I do.

I am disappointed, I have a 9 year old daughter who adores her. We buy everything of hers. I really belieived that she would put the fans 1st and her adult desires last. We were buying Spears stuff and concert tickets until we attended one of the Speers concerts and she was late for the concert and dressed in hot pants and acted totally inappropriate. We ditched her that night and would never respect her craft again, if Miley isn't careful she may be ditched in the same way. We need positive respect yourself attitudes for our young girls and with her money and talent she should respect herself and her young audience. Save the bar for her bedroom.
