Chris Brown Sentenced - Gets Probation

It's done. A judge has sentenced Chris Brown the following:
- Perform hard labor at Commonwealth Catholic Charities in Richmond, VA
- Take a 52-week domestic violence course
- Stay 100 yards away from Rihanna, unless they are both at an entertainment-related event (then he has to stay 10 yards away)- this will last for 5 years
- Keep in touch with a parole officer
- Stay away from dangerous weapons
- Pay $2,500 in restitution
- Pay $2,500 in probation expenses
- Pay a $30 criminal conviction fee
- Pay $400 that goes into a domestic violence fund
What do you think about the sentence? Is it just?

Lenient. But I'm biased - never cared for him on a personal level. Always looked/acted like a punk and now we know he is.
I saw what he did to Rhianna, it was disgusting, he beat the tar out of her and bit her. He should be in jail and see how it feels to fear for your life.

I thought he was already sentenced. Whatever. Celebrities don't pay for the crimes they commit. Had it been an average Joe, he would have done time. Too bad most people don't have 'loyal' fans to stand by their side and excuse and/or condone their inhumane behavior. Not surprised. And, I am tired of hearing about this cases. I can't stand when they drag cases on and on knowing full well that person won't be punished. Just a waste of money. Off topic: Cute outfit, Rihanna.
Unrelated celeb question:
Is there a special name given to the gift bags celebrities receive at award shows etc? My brain is about to explode trying to think of what they call those bags!
Thanks!
In reply to the gift bags - Arent they called swag?

I think he should be in jail, but considering that he's a celebrity, and they always get off "easy," I really think that the sentence is perfect. Though, I think maybe a bit more could have gone towards the domestic violence fund.
I'm also glad to hear that the restraining order to stay 100-yards away from Rihanna stuck because I know there's been reports that even Rihanna wanted it lifted.
DUDE! Judge don't wan'na see no STUDS! And I don't mean YOU!

For a first time offender, this is what is normally done. As a criminal justice major, this is on track for people without records. (unless he does have one. Any help on that one?)

I think that he should be in jail but since he's a first time offender it might be the normla sentencing-don't know to much about this stuff. Oh, and I'm not one of his fans, don't really like him and I think he's (was) overrated. Also, it seemed like Rihanna didn't want to push the issue any further. So, it could be that her not wanting to testify/sue/or wanting justice could have been the cause for him not being in jail.

ew he should be in jail. I can't stand him.
What the heck is "Perform hard labor at Commonwealth Catholic Charities"? It's a food pantry! Jeez.
I think its enought, his career has also taken a major blow, and I'm betting that hurt him more.

I want to remind the world what he did. He came within seconds of choking her to DEATH. He threatened her life and meant it. It should have been an attempted murder charge. He should be doing time, real hard time with the big boys who could show him how Rhianna felt. He should NOT be going to "entertainment events" in a limo. There is no way he will meet the terms of probation and stay clean for 5 years. He will violate it. I hope its soon so he can experience real consequences of his actions. Here's the details from the polices reports. "Rihanna Attack -- The Official Blow-by-Blow
The court has released the officer's report from the night Chris Brown beat up Rihanna -- describing the entire incident in graphic detail.
According to the report, cops responded to a "screaming woman" -- and when they arrived, they noticed a "very upset and crying" Rihanna seated in the driver's seat of a parked vehicle.
Rihanna told the officer she got into an argument with Chris Brown over something that had occurred at an event they were at earlier in the evening.
"The victim said she became enraged and slammed both of her fists against the dashboard on the passenger side of the car they were in. She reported that the defendant then pulled the vehicle over and reached over her with his right hand. He opened the car door and tried to force the victim out."
According to the report, Brown was unable to shove Rihanna out of the car because she was wearing a seatbelt.
The report continues, "When he could not force her to exit, he took his right hand and shoved her head against the passenger window of the car. "
"The victim then faced the defendant and he punched her in the left eye with his right hand. He then continued driving."
"As he drove, he continued to punch the victim in the face with his right hand while steering the vehicle with his left hand."
Rihanna told cops the "assault caused her mouth to fill with blood and blood to splatter over her clothing and the inside of the car."
Rihanna told cops after Brown "stopped his first assault .. she looked in the mirror and saw her eye beginning to swell.
[Brown] looked at [Rihanna] and said 'I'm going to beat the shit out of you when we get home! You wait and see!'"
Rihanna told police she tried to call her personal assistant, but she didn't pick up -- but Rihanna says she "pretended to talk, saying, 'I'm on my way home. Make sure the cops are there when I get there.'"
Rihanna says she pulled the act "because she did not want to get beat anymore."
But after Rihanna's fake phone conversation, she claims Brown "looked at [Rihanna] and said, "You just did the stupidest thing ever! Now I'm really going to kill you!"
Rihanna told cops that Brown unleashed a second wave of punches, "during which time [Rihanna] interlocked her fingers behind her head and brought her elbows forward to protect her face." He continued to punch her on her left arm, which caused a contusion on her left tricep.
At that point Rihanna tried texting her assistant. Brown threw the phone out of the car, stopped the vehicle and Rihanna then tried opening her door to get out, but Brown sped off and the door shut with Rihanna inside.
Brown placed Rihanna in a headlock while he drove, then bit her on her left ear. The car eventually stopped and Rihanna took the keys out of the ignition, and Brown began to punch her again in the face and arms. He placed her in a headlock and started applying pressure to her carotid artery. She couldn't breathe and began to lose consciousness. She tried freeing herself, and Brown bit her left ring and middle fingers and then released her.
Rihanna took off her shoe and tried breaking the passenger window, and he continued to punch her.
Eventually, Brown got out of the car. Rihanna opened the door and continued screaming. Brown began punching her again. He got back in the car and screamed "Where are my f***ing keys?" He got out, looked for the keys in vain, and when he could not find them removed several CDs and walked away.
Officers were called and observed numerous contusions and abrasions to Rihanna's face and forehead, as well as bruising on her left arm. There were other injuries as well.
Investigators determined Brown was wearing a large ring on his right hand which caused several of Rihanna's injuries."
Chris Brown met with probation officials in late June, and he told them he was "ashamed and embarrassed" over the Rihanna beating.
In documents released today by the court, Brown met at the law office of his attorney, Mark Geragos. Brown's mom and probation officers were also present.
During the meeting, Brown said he wanted to plead guilty immediately, but his attorney would not let him. Brown says he also wanted to undergo counseling before he started his probation but Geragos wouldn"t let him.
Brown said when he was growing up he saw violence in his own household and didn't want to "carry on that cycle."
Brown told the probation people he wanted to attend domestic violence counseling and wanted to "do it right."
And there's this... Brown says he has already apologized to Rihanna "on a few different occasions." He added he was "uncertain" of the status of their relationship. Note, this interview was June 26, 2009, more than 4 months after the beating.
WHY does this man still HAVE a carreer? Why is he still invited to entertainment events so they need a special restraining order for that?
On the other hand - even serial killers get fan mail and proposals of marriage in jail, so there must be people out there who think violence is sexy.

Like attracts like. Sick attracts sick. Women want to marry Scott Peterson...hmmmmm Some apparently think killing your wife and unborn child and dumping their bodies in the bay is zexy. Sad but true.
Don’t bother recording buddy because hopefully no one will spend a penny towards you… may as well look for a low rent apartment right now.
I think the judge did a good job. I've seen domestic violence crimes where guys got away scott free. I'm glad the judge was not star struck

This was way beyond domestic violence.

While I absolutely do not condone what Chris did to RiRi, we all need to remember that it takes two to tango. There were other altercations leading up to the beat down and they both chose to avoid it and carry on. The smartest thing anyone can do once violence sets into a relationship; is walk away.
