Stephanie Meyer's 'The Host' To Become Movie

So excited! I really REALLY enjoyed reading 'The Host', Stephanie Meyer's first adult novel and am so happy to hear that producers have picked up the rights to make the book into a film.
Meyer's novel is a love story set in the near future on Earth, which has been assimilated by an alien species of benevolent parasites that call themselves "Souls." One such soul, the Wanderer, is fused with a dying human named Melanie Stryder, in an attempt to locate the last pocket of surviving humans on Earth.
Producers Nick Wechsler, Steve and Paula Mae Schwartz have used their own money to acquire screen rights and I am sure it will pay off wonderfully for them.
Have you read the book? Are you excited about seeing this story on the big screen?

I own this book - I bought it without realize she wrote the Twilight books. I haven't read it quite yet, though. In due time.

between stephanie meyer's horrible writing skills, her unoriginal plots, and her mormon underlyings i think it's safe to say i'm going to skip this one.

These types of books don't appeal to me at all.

She already has the built-in fan base so it'll probably be a huge hit. I bought the book but have yet to read it. I've heard a lot of good things about it.

This book has been sitting on my shelf at home for a year now and I still haven't read it. I have read all the Twilight books and I'm not impressed with her writing at all. I'm afraid to even start reading this book because I might end up throwing it against the wall like I did with Breaking Dawn, many times.

You mean you didn't like the first third honeymoon, the second third random switch to a new character's perspective, or the final third where it's one big Deus Ex Machina that leads to a huge letdown?

All that more, much much more.
The Host has been written in a totally different style to Twilight and on the whole is a much better book than anything else she has written
The Host is an awful book (IMO). I don't like the sci-fi deal and this book pushed me to my limits with that. I couldn't even finish it.
what trash is this? why don't people read classy books?
this stephanie whatshername is such a trash-author.
I don't like this idea...
BUT PLEASE LET JOSH DUHAMEL PLAY JARED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I did not like this book at all. I loved the Twilight Series, but The Host was a big bore.

And then SG-1 came and eliminated the Goa'uld and freed the hosts & jaffa. Oh no...wait...that was Stargate SG-1.

Ugh no. Enough with the Twilight mania. I hope this doesn't get crazy too.
Jeez...I wish I'd have a dream, wake up and write a book series that goes on to make millions. Being Stephenie Meyer doesn't suck I guess.

i havent read this book so im not sure if it'll be a good movie. i guess i'll have to wait and see if it interests me when i see the trailer.
Hope the movie is better than the book because her writing style is bad... I like the idea of the host but, she just made so it long winded and it really went no where.. Lazy writing !!

Interesting.... she is definitely into writing about the kinda sci-fi stuff.
Well I can Honestly say that Meyer is not the best writer of all times but she did bring to us the romance story that we had all been waiting for which is twilight, personally i like the story line all thou the writing is not very good , more like long descriptions to fill pages with to much feeling expositions more like long jane austing and pride & prejudice made in to a movie with kiera meaning, the idea is pretty good and so are the character but the excessive explosion of emotions and inner self talks can tend to drive one time to time bored and exhausted. But bottom line is she has good ideas and i rather have this type of writers that can bring things that one would want to watch made into a movie right away, than having the most powerful writhing but the lack of commercialism to get driven into a movie, specially when she touches a subject that we all dream about the perfect being the fact of having so much physical power to be a beast but to be so noble , a vegetarian vampire come on that is a really god idea, a sparkly vegetarian mind reader vampire that takes the brutalism of the hole vampire thing , personally i like edward more than bill from the sookie stackhouse Chronicles or true blood as you may have seen on tv. Edward is a glorified brad pitt in interview with the vampire.
As for the Host DO AGREE that it is extremely over writing , she could have done better but again she accomplish her purpose which was to make something worthy of the big scree, so people stop accusing the author , she is a commercial author that's her job to make something that we must hate and love enough like to get into the big screen so that we can all have fantasies for months .
If you feel so ready to put down horrible comments of an author you probably die to meet since she is making more money than all of us will ever make in our life time, then please be my guest and write something 3 times better and that an also be commercial, I bet you cant , then that means we are much critics and stuff but in the bottom your just agitated that we cant make that much success as her , so lets start being bold and become something before we make direct critics to the author ok . PS I warn you it is not easy to become a commercial writer even if your an excellent composer.
(coming from true experience , I live in japan *probably noticed the bad English writing I apologise for the * and I have tried my self and came with defeat , even in Spanish which is said to be the easiest market now )
)
OH almost forgot I'm desperate to see the host movie wonder who would play wanda when she get a new body.

Wow, Miruta - have a lot to say? :)
I love the Twilight series but when I read this book I wanted to pull my hair out it was that bad. I just found it was not good at all. maybe it was the plot ... but whatever it was ... i do not recommend it to anyone.
I am SO excited. This book was amazing. The writing style was so different than all the Twilight books. In fact I prefer it over the Twilight series....seriously if you haven't read it I totally would! Takes a while to get into but its awesome....I can not WAIT for it to be a movie!
Vera, you misspell the author's name CONSTANTLY! It's STEPHENIE, not STEPHANIE.
I just finished the book and I thought that is was amazing! I can't wait to see how the movie turns out!
I'd have to agree, Meyer doesn't write the most advanced literature, but her story lines are good and the way she can really captivate her readers by telling us a love story we've all been longing for is amazing.
You can knock her all you want but she is making millons and millons of $'s primarily off an idea that came to her in a daydream.
She can't be too bad
Plus, twilight has gotten more kids reading then any book since harry potter, if not more.. so that says something right there.

I haven't read any of her books but I will someday.
I'll admit, I 'sort of' got caught up in the Twilight mania, but once I stepped back and had a good look, I realised that it really isn't a very great book. More so than any series/individual book I've ever read, I would always find ways that Meyer could've improved things. I honestly believe that the basic concept behind Twilight had potential - vampire loves the girl he want's to devour more than anything. When I look at that basic starting point, I think that such a plot could be exploited in so many ways to express great ideology and, of course, become an amazing romance. I think that the basic idea behind the Twilight saga had GREAT potential, but that Meyer... Well, she kinda screwed up I guess.
When I first read the basic plot of The Host, I was really turned off. I've never been a fan of aliens and using them in movies/books, because things become cliched and dreary. Plus I was shivering at the thought of how the writer of the Twilight saga could write a SCI-FI ROMANCE. But, by some miracle, I sat down and read The Host. And I must say, I think that this ONE book is one hundred times better than the WHOLE TWILIGHT SAGA COMBINED. Period.
I'll admit, because of my distaste of the overused plot point that seems to dwell in every alien invasion, I was very happy that the aliens were SO benevolent. I hadn't seen or heard of such a twist in a story or movie before -where the invaders had arguably made the Earth a better place - and I was very pleased that Meyer created them like that.
I'll also admit that I have yet to come across ONE 'dangerously selfless and kind' character that hasn't made me puke in their cheesiness. Apart from Wanda. I must say that I love that Soul to bits. She is just so... GOOD. And she makes sense. And has personality. And she doesn't make me writhe in pain. I applaud Meyer for managing such a thing, considering how easily fed-up I get with how some authors portray characters.
So, I can easily say that I am VERY, VERY, VEEEEEEEEERY excited about The Host getting made into a movie. I just hope that they don't screw it up, since the story is so unique (from me perspective) and has great potential. Honestly, though, Meyer wrote a Sci-Fi novel for people who aren't into Sci-Fi. And personally, she rocked it. That's a great achievement in itself.
But back to the matter at hand. Yes, I am incredibly excited. So much so that I'm bouncing with the laptop on my knees as I type this. I can't wait to see how the producers pull this off, and hope that they don't screw up the wonderful gift that has been placed in their hands.
Oh, and I'm still waiting for Meyer to write a sequel. C'mon girl, it's gonna rock!
I love all Stephanie Meyer's books. i really CANNOT wait for the Host movie. After she helped with the movie of Twilight and how great it came out, i think it will be a movie that everyone could like in some way.
BTW... this is for Vivi. i had no idea who Josh Duhamel was, but i googled him. i had seen Transformers previously, but didn't recognise the name.
I think that Josh Duhamel would be a really GREAT actor to play Jared. lol.
I LOVE the twilight saga books. Especially the one shes working on (Midnight Sun) which is Twilight in Edwards point of view instead of bellas. I bought the Host bc she wrote it. It didnt draw me in at first liek Twilight did. but after I got to chapter... lets say 12... whichever one where she starts talking to ppl in the cave... I really got into it. but the whole time she was trapped there being held captive... that was boring.
Overall towards the end I really got into it and couldnt put it down. I will definatly go see the movie!
