Jay Z Says Lil' Mama Pulled A Kanye During The MTV Video Music Awards

Jay Z Says Lil' Mama Pulled A Kanye During The MTV Video Music Awards

While sitting down with Hot 97's Angie Martinez, Jay-Z talked about how upset he was when Lil' Mama rushed the stage during his performance on the MTV VMA's earlier this month.

“I would never do that. I would never have the nerve to do that. We go to rehearsals, we do run-throughs, and we work really hard on the performance to put on a show for people. And to interrupt that moment for us, I don’t think that was the right thing to do.

I actually thought it was the equivalent of what Kanye did to Taylor Swift but nobody really talked about that because I’m not a lil sweet girl from middle America.”

“I’m cool with her being excited and all that, but you also have to understand people put in work to make that performance happen–the planning of it, there's a lot of planning that went into that performance. To disrupt that is out of line.”

“I was a little angry–but what imma do, fight Lil Mama?”

What do you think about what happened? Is it equivalent to what happened between Taylor Swift and Kanye West?

I think its the same thing. A person is up on stage trying to do what they're supposed to do (a performance or a speech for a win), and somebody else rudely jumps in because they're not the center of attention.

But wait, how hypocritical is that? He was defending Kayne for doing it, but "lil mama" is in the wrong?

Jay did not defend what Kanye did...in fact he explicitly stated that while he would defend Kanye's right to his opinion, he thought that what he did when he interrupted Taylor Swift was wrong, and rude...so how is he being hypocritical again??????

He DID defend Kanye, and he minimized his behavior, go look up the quote. What Lil Mama did was wrong too, just not on the same scale as Kanye, but they were both wrong and should be fined and then ignored.

Why doesn't he just come right out and say it? No one cares because he's black. It's what he wanted to say. And he's right. But it isn't because he's black. It's because he's Jay-Z and no one in America could give a flying pete what happens during his mediocre and lackluster performances.

I don't think it's so much because he's black, though that plays a part, but it was an older black, much more physically imposing man whose job is being a rapper being interrupted by a younger black rapper/dancer.

Taylor Swift, a young, white, extremely polite and generous female country singer was interrupted by a notoriously big headed black rapper. I think the biggest difference is the gender and profession. But yes, race did play a part, I'm sure. Since it was rapper to rapper with Jay-Z and Lil Mama, it's not being quite as blown up. My opinion anyway.

i highly doubt it had anything to do with race, Kanye picked on a well mannered girl and he acted like a bully, he would have never done that to Pink, Gwen Steffany, Madonna or any female that would kick his ass on stage. he picked on someone that in no way are in the same level. Kanye is a coward. Jay Z in the other hand is the bigger fish in this case and can handle it.

This news irked me today bc I recall jay z stating that what kanye did wasn’t so bad, bc its not like he killed someone or something like that. But talentless lil mama ( who for some unexplainable reason was cast for Americas best dance crew judge ??? – I stopped watching that show bc she tried being all gangsta and acting like she knew what she was talking about, lol okay, got that off my chest) jumped on stage just to pose with jayz and that got his lil panties in a twist?
No honestly I don’t think color has to do with it. Jayz is low for even thinking it has to do something with race. Kanye basically told a teenage girl who one her first award that she didn’t deserve it. while lil mama jumped on stage pissing off a grown ass man, just so she can pose with them. There is a huge difference, jay z is being a lil b1tch for acting like such a thug.

First off, unless Lil Mama interupted his acceptance speech for winning an award it isn't quite the same. I do agree she shouldn't have done it, and I don't understand why no one has called her on it, or asked exactly why she felt the need to do that. Maybe it is time for MTV to up their security, or change their format--or even better--cancel this award show, cause they have nothing to do with the music industry any longer.

You shooed her away while she was on stage...I think that was plenty enough, I know it was hysterical to me.

But it takes more than passion and nerve to interrupt a speech or performance...both were completely arrogant and out of line.

it's not the same thing at all, and has nothing to do with race. unless this lil mama's intention in getting up on stage was to tell jay z he didn't deserve to win or the performance equivalent, we can't even compare them. she was incredibly rude, like kanye, but that's where the similarity ends. also, jay z is a grown man... grow up already. noone cares about this because it did nothing to ruin his moment. what kanye did to taylor swift would have been rude if she was white, black, green or purple.

As for Jay-z i find him a bit hypocritical. First defending what Kayne and now trying to make his a big deal. Don't sit there and say it was a big deal just because she was white..if a white person had done this, black people would be all over it..and I guarentee there would have been a fine envolved... he got away with posting an apology on the website to Taylor...she has a lot of class handling this situation the way she did and i respect her even more for that.
