Jon Gosselin Dropped From 'Jon And Kate Plus 8'

Well, it happened. Jon Gosselin has been dropped from 'Jon and Kate Plus 8,' according to People.

In a stunning announcement, TLC said Tuesday morning that as of Nov. 2 Jon Gosselin would no longer appear on the popular reality series Jon & Kate Plus 8. The program would undergo a name change, to simply Kate Plus 8

After an initial ratings spike last spring when rumors of marital problems surfaced, the ratings dropped steadily since the show started up again in August. I get the impression this is what Jon wanted, but something tells me this may be a case of be careful what you wish for.

ETA: Here's more of TLC's statement:

TLC will continue its exclusive relationship with Jon Gosselin and he will continue to appear on the show, but on a less regular basis."

Said Eileen O'Neill of TLC: "Given the recent changes in the family dynamics, it only makes sense for us to refresh and recalibrate the program to keep pace with the family. The family has evolved and we are attempting to evolve with it; we feel that Kate’s journey really resonates with our viewers. Additionally the network is in development on a Kate project for 2010."

So Jon isn't out entirely, and it looks like that rumored 'Divorced Dad's Club' with Michael Lohan still isn't an option. For those of you who watch the show, is this good news?

good news would be both of them off of television and focusing on their children in the hopes that they don't go off the deep end.

I don't watch this show. I don't like the way these poor kids are exploited. The show has ruined their lives. I'm sure if it weren't for the show, this guy wouldn't have turned out to be the total looser that he appears to be.

I'm in complete agreement. I think some of these "reality" stars start lose a sense of what used to be normal and just get caught up in the craziness and lose their sense of what IS real and what's scripted for the show/publicity stunts/whathaveyou. I hope no other networks pick him up.

So glad to see they did that. I'm sure he'll appear in a few shows here and there so he doesn't get the notion to say the kids can't appear and start another battle. it used to be a cute show and I may watch it again now that he's out because he's a real jerk

I guess this means they are really getting a divorce. In the back of my mind I always hoped they would get counseling and make things work.

I've never watched the show, but through what I have read about him, he doesn't seem to want to be a part of the show or his family very much. Seems like he just wants to chop down anything that walks by.

I don’t know why blogs/gossip sites keep saying this but the ratings haven’t dropped at all. The show has always been in the 3 million range. People keep using the ratings of when the problems became public as the benchmark of how well the show is doing. Ratings over 4 million are just from people who never watched the show before and want to know what the fuss is about. They watch one or two episodes then leave since the show isn’t what they thought it was. Even at 3 million viewers Jon & Kate is a top 3 show if not #1 on TLC. Not said to see Jon go since he’s now worse than Spencer Pratt. He used to be reserved, quiet. All of the sudden he became a huge douchebag.

I don't know why people don't see what happened. I watched the the show for years with my six year old, she loved watching the little kids. kate just got soooo bad as the seasons went on I can't believe that he stayed that long. As for his behavior after the separation I see it as a man lost without his wife and kids... he spiraled out of control. Kate just has a much better PR team and with TLC's editing John was just fighting a loosing battle. Not team JOHN Not Team Kate just rooting for the kids. It's going to get ugly for them.

This show needs to be pulled off the air.Maybe then the poor kids won't have to spend so much time with nannies. If anyone cared about these kids at all they would boycott this show for good. I have. I don't care what Jon or Kate does. None of it is good for the kids. Kate thinks she is some kind of miss hollywood and Jon is trying to show everyone he can live without Kate. As I am so sure Kate thought he could not and continual to humiliate him in front of millions.
Now he thinks he has something to prove. To bad
.Kate has NEVER watched her kids she has always had help we just didn't see it in the beginning. It was also Kate that wanted out of the marriage. She just was forced to stay because of the show. But once Jon got caught out (WAY AFTER IT HAD BEEN OVER BETWEEN THEM) and we all knew the real deal, she ran right out and got the divorce SHE wanted.I will never buy anything to do with them or evcer watch anything to do with either one of them. Look at how sad those kids look.

They were just mismatched. She's type A and he's type Z. That can work sometimes, but the stress of 8 kids is just too much, because type A will get more intense and type Z will zone, which will infuriate Type A and then type A gets more tense and type Z will withdraw. I admired and still admire Kate for being so organized despite 8 kids and for being truly thoughtful about everyone. Anyone who watched the show could see that pretty much everything she did was for them. I don't begrudge a mother of 8 an occasional trip to the spa. I have one child and it's busy. It was always hard to peg John because he was quiet, but he would occasionally give as good as he got. I think the stress was just too much for him. From the ridiculous way he acted after the breakup, he seemed not to want that life, but rather to want much more freedom. Why move to NYC rather than get a place closer? Serial dating days after the divorce is filed? Really poor judgment. But if you look back over the old days, he always seemed to do almost everything in a half-hearted way, like a guy going through the motions without really questioning. I think 8 kids just really took them both for a loop.

I believe Kate when she says that underneath everything everday is a frantic knowledge of the need to support 8 kids. That is how a conscientious mother feels regardless of how many kids she has, when she sees the limitations or barriers. Sending 8 kids to college will be in the millions of real dollars. Just feeding and clothing them is ridiculous. They go through a gallon of milk or more a day!

John is not thinking now because he is mad at being fired and feeling left out. He can't get over the thought that Kate will make a bunch of money when he won't, but taking the money away from his kids is not the way to go about this. He should have just had his lawyer file something quietly seeking compensation.

What's interesting is that now the stark dynamics will have to play out. Meaning, who gets the money from TLC under each custody scenario? If they get joint custody of the kids, but Jon is fired, does that mean no taping the kids when they are with Jon. At what point do the kids deserve compensation? All of these questions about that which may have been brushed over when both parents agreed on things will now turn into the nightmare of their lives. If the show ends over Jon's actions, Kate will be fuming and things will get worse. But frankly, how in the world can he support 8 kids? Kate can't really work with 8 kids, and if she did, their care level would certainly drop. I pity the judge who has to sort through all of this mess to come up with what is in the kids' best interests.
