Report: Mischa Barton Fears For Her Career
Mischa Barton is terrified her career is over. The 23-year-old actress was devastated when her new TV show ‘The Beautiful Life’ was cancelled after just two episodes, and now fears she will never find work again.
“This show was such an ego boost for her at a time when she needed one. She has been insecure about where her career was going and feels she may be a has-been at 23. She hasn’t been overwhelmed with offers since ‘The O.C.’ went off the air.
“She needs to feel she’s still employable. Right now, that’s her deepest fear. That no one will hire her again. It’s not true, but that’s how insecure she can get sometimes.”
Bosses on ‘The Beautiful Life’ – which was produced by Ashton Kutcher - were aware of how fragile Mishca was feeling, and so asked her mother Nuala to break the news the show was over. The source added to Britain’s Star magazine:
“Mischa fell into her mother’s arms and sobbed. Nuala reminded her that there will be other opportunities and it wasn’t the end of the world, but Mischa got mad and screamed how she couldn’t understand. It was rough, apparently.
“She said it wasn’t her fault they didn’t promote the show or keep it running long enough so people could discover it on their own.”
The industry can be brutal. How many shining stars are now no longer in the limelight? That's just the way the business is - fickle and disloyal. Do you think Mischa will be able to find work again?

Hard to have sympathy for this girl. Get a regular 9-5 like everyone else in the real world. Cry me a river.

get a metrocard, forget cabbing it.
I know now she's kicking herself for not doing Gossip Girl. I can't remember the reason she turned down a role but she did it in a snotty and egotistical way.

She can go back to school, perhaps take a few more acting classes and branch out a bit more. However, the first thing she needs to do is get mentally sound. She seems fragile in that department.

Very true! There are many things she can do. Also, there's always a career in fashion--since so many actors end up having their own lines.

I really could care less if I don't see her on TV ever again...

I can see why she's concerned about her career - it does seem like it's over.
It's too bad that so many actors start working so young and then have nothing to fall back on if it doesn't pan out. And they consider themselves a failure if it doesn't. Meanwhile in the "real world" lots of people change careers, even going back to school to do so, and they aren't considered failures at all. I think if she had some skills - real world skills - her self-worth wouldn't be so low.
Thank you for denying my legitimate comment. Glad your readers are so important to you.

Maybe this person got flagged for possible spam? It's happened to me before (more than once) even though my comments have always relevant.

she shouldn't take the cancellation of the show that much personnally , wasn't her fault. and yeh a few acting lessons wouldn't do her wrong

maybe she should have thought of this before she made a huge stink about getting out of her oc contract.

Sorry but her career is over.
She'll be back. She's only 23 and her head has been a little bit bent out of shape - child star and all that - but that is temporary and she has a quality and once she gets grounded and real we are going to see a lot more of her. She has felt pain - this will give her acting authenticity.
It already has. Without her The OC quickly came to a standstill. She has a mysterious star quality. Magnetic somehow.
I wish her very well.
She is great.
