Off To Finally Fix These Migraine Headaches

Off To Finally Fix These Migraine Headaches

I'm not sure what took me so long to actually do something about these TERRIBLE migraine headaches I ALWAYS get - but today is the day I have a doctor's appt.

They've become crippling. It's awful!

If I leave my house, I basically get one. So either I am becoming agoraphobic, am constantly dehydrated, or something is wrong with my head... all are quite possible.
:)

The doc was called when OTC pills no longer worked on me. In one day, I think I took about 6 pills (2 of whatever I had) in a few hours and it changed nothing.

Time for a prescription.

Hopefully, this will be short and sweet.

Vera, I'm so sorry you are suffering from these. My mom & sister both have chronic migraines and it's horrible. They both use Immitrex and it works wonderfully. But I do hope you can find a reason why you are getting them so often. Sending good thoughts your way.

So sorry to hear you get them - I also suffer from them - have been to the ER more times than can count. Agree that Immitrix works great. I use the injection kind because I get physically ill but the pill form works as well. Other things that work - I take Topamax daily. Another good fix is Mirganal (nasal spray). Works well. Good luck!!! they are just horrible and can really affect your life:(

Good luck Vera! Migraines are HORRIBLE! I hope you find something to stop the pain. Do you get auras with them? I used to get terrible migraines in high school (due to hormones) and I knew 20 minutes before they set in becuase my vision would be half blocked out (so scary), I would get nauseated and throw up, I couldn't feel my limbs, and I could not even SPEAK OR READ. My brain would be come completely crippled. When those symptoms appeared, I would pop a million advils and go straight home and sleep it off. Then my brain would be so sore the next day. It was like I was having a stroke. They luckily stopped when I was 18. Haven't had one in years!! :)

Monica, when I get them, I have the eye "aura" thing and get really shaky and sick. The first time the vision thing completely freaked me out. But now I know that it means one is coming on and take something to try to head it off.

I had the same thing in high school. I would get blurry vision, headaches and I would become terribly dizzy. I haven't had one since I was 18-19. Never thought about hormones!

Vera, I really hope the doctor can give you some good news!

Vera,
There are so many new medicines for Migraines. My heart goes out to you. My husband has suffered withe cluster headaches take it up a few notches from what you feel. The reinters used to detatch from his eyes. the imitrix shots only worked for a bit. We finally found a Dr. in the city who specialized in these type of headaches. they tasted like pepermint i can't remember the name I will try to find out for you. They say what you eat ( i don't believe that after keeping a journal I noticed that when we had a big change in our weather he had them more. So much for Global warning. Godd luck Honey call if you need me

I know everyone has their own triggers for migraines, but I though I would share the story of my own migraine struggle. I had migraines for years and years, was on Topomax and Imitrex which sometimes worked, sometimes didn't. I went on the migraine diet which got rid of caffeine, lots of sugars, some fruits, etc. to no avail, so I thought it was not food/drink induced. I decided to go on an organic diet, which included no more diet soda, and MAGIC, my migraines disappeared. When I looked at some journal articles about aspartame (I am a scientist and have access to most journals) there were TONS of articles about how aspartame can cause migraines; possibly even causing up to 10% of migraines in the population. I never put it together because a.) I didn't know aspartame could cause migraines and b.) I didn't get a migraine right after I drank the soda. It was just a slow build up in my body of chemicals. I hope that this helps and maybe trying an all natural diet would help you too? Good luck in your search, I hope you can find out what is wrong without medicating yourself unnecessarily.
