Leona Lewis Defends Electrician Boyfriend

Leona Lewis and her electrician boyfriend Lou Al-Chamaa started dating when the singer was 17 years old and before she found fame. Now that she's in the spotlight she's been receiving some flack about dating a guy who's an electrician. When asked about people's reactions to their romance, Leona defended their relationship and admitted she's a bit upset about the snide remarks.

"It does make me angry. Because he's a great person. And it doesn't matter what you do in life, what your job is, where you come from."

That is SO true. I think it's great that Leona has stayed with Al-Chamaa even after shooting to fame.

"This is real life, it isn't make believe. For people to think that you should leave someone because, all of a sudden, you're a singer and you have opportunities. I feel very sorry for them."

To help keep herself grounded Leona surrounds herself with people that knew her before she became famous. In fact, she still lives in the same neighborhood!

"All my friends I've known since I was really little. It's not that I don't let new people in," she says in the interview, "but I do feel safe with people that really know me, who know who I am."

Do you think it's the public place to look down on Leona for dating a man who works as an electrician?

She's a famous singer, he's an electrician, they love each other. I don't really see the problem.

Very well said!

And sidenote: people need to stop being ignorant about professions, because a lot of electricians and truck drivers make just as much, if not more, money than people with "glamorous" jobs. (not that a person's dignity it should change even if they made minimum wage!)

She should not have to defend her relationship at all. Ridiculous!

That's ridiculous. I'm glad to hear she's smart enough to keep a man who loved her before her career took off. She might not have gotten where she is without his support, ya know?

To be Electiecian he must have a at least a bit of collage education that makes him better than a whole bunch of high school drop out in music business.

More power to her for staying with him so long. I'm more impressed with the longevity of their relationship rather than his profession.

You should post a picture of them together with this article, because the boy's a total hottie! And (as much as one can judge from photographs of them together) he clearly adores her.

Who cares what he does for a living? At least he has a JOB! It'd be better than dating a groupie who just loved someone for their fame.

Those very same idiots would be slamming her if she dumped his a$$ after getting famous! Good for Leona for keeping it real.

I believe his money is more guaranteed than her money.
My friend, who is a doctor, married a certified plumber (commercial), he makes more than her. I believe he will garner 6 figures this year. The past couple of years he was making about $80K.

Who said anything about these snide comments? I wonder if it's a publicity stunt on her part.

It's amazing that people would expect her to dump a probably decent guy for someone more famous, wealthier, etc. Dating a famous singer didn't do Rhianna any good.

What the hell is wrong with working as an electrician? Stupid people thinking white-collared jobs are more prestigeous. I like what she says here. I would like to smack the people who think she shouldn't date an electrician.

How old is this girl? Is her dad black or is her mom black? Cuz someone white contributed to her.

My husband is an electrician full time (at a hospital) and a firefighter part time. He makes enough money to allow me to be a stay at home mom. We have three kids and while we aren't rich, we do pay our bills and support our children. It's an honorable profession and it sucks that she has to defend her boyfriend. At least the man has a job.

I think what she said about this being real life and not make-believe says it all. There are so many stars who live this rediculous, over-indulgent life and it does nothing but continuously isolate them. Leona's choices have allowed her to be happy, balanced, as well as successful. Good for her.

Some people have nothing better to do than to criticize others. OK. She's a star now. He's not, in the public eye, but a star in her life. Those of you who think otherwise need to get a life for Christ sake!! Go Leona. You are lovely. You are in love and that's all that matters...and I love your music, so @#$%# all your critics!
