Cindy Crawford Wouldn't Make It As A Supermodel Today

This is according to Cindy Crawford herself. In an interview with a German magazine, Cindy said that her body would not be accepted in the current modeling market, so if she were starting out as a model today, she wouldn't be successful.
"I would not have become a supermodel in 2009," she told Germany’s Bunte magazine, "I look too healthy."
According to the mom-of-two, "a body like mine with big breasts, normal thighs and toned upper arms" is no longer what the industry is looking for.
However, Cindy said she appreciates her body.
"That's why I like being in my 40s so much," says Cindy, "being at peace with yourself, knowing about your strengths beyond being pretty."
I always thought Cindy was considered an exception; the waif-like look in models became popular in the sixties with Twiggy, so it's certainly nothing new. Do models seem smaller today than they were in the '90s?

I would have to agree with her all the models now a days have absolutely little to no curves. They have shrunk from the 90's.
You are kidding, right? Models today are too too thin--anorexic looking, and there has been alot of flack over it. Bring back Cindy Crawford bodies---

What does she have to be at peace with? Puhhh lease! She is still flawless.

I agree.
Is she saying she wouldn't have become a supermodel in 2009 if she were young again? Because it kind of sounds like she's describing her current 40-something mom of two body as a reason for not making it today. And it's kind of just a given that a 40-something wouldn't become a supermodel.
I think the confusion stems from the fact that she really isn't comfortable with how she looks and wants to remain in the game. Otherwise, how would you explain her Botox face? I wish she would truly relax and age gracefully.

I don't think relaxing and aging gracefully is in the current Hollyweird lexicon.
Models are DEFINITELY thinner than they were in the early nineties! In the latter part of the decade they started to get scarily thin, and I think that trend has only gotten worse. Many runway models today make Kate Moss (at her thinnest) look heavy by comparison.
She could have been good in something else then.I..and is not like there weren't a skinny models in the past even before her time, what about the Twiggy in the 60's
No way I agree with u. This has been a trend since twiggy. If anything de media has become slightly more accepting of curves with Victorias secrets models. She is just trying to sneakily brag about her curves.
I really think that people get a little too up in arms about the thinness of fashion models. Everbody knows that this isn't specifically what women are "supposed" to look like, and if they don't than their mother did something wrong. the point of fashion models are to be hangers for the CLOTHES, thats why they are so thin...you're not supposed to be looking at the curves of the models, they are androgynous for a reason so you appreciate the fashion and not the body!!! If people are soooo self conscious that this practice is threatening to them than maybe it's time to make some changes in their own lifestyles.

it is scary to see how thin some models are. it just doesnt make sense since those clothes are suppose to fit regular ppl.
they are *not* supposed to fit regular people! ever heard carl lagerfeld saying that he doesn't taylor for fatties? by that he means anything bigger than a 0!

nope, never heard him saying that. pretty sad what he considers fat.

When I think 90's models I don't necessarily see a theme. I think models of the 90s were far more famous that models today. There was a mixture of curvy and thin back then. I think Cindy was definitely a male favourite as far as modeling, and not so much a runway model. But then again I never studied the subject. I recall seeing many posters of her as a tween flipping through those poster 'catalogues' if you will, and remember telling myself 'I will never look that good' lol.
Cindy Crawford, Nicky Taylor, Kate Moss. Three very different types of 90's models. In today's age there is far too much competition that they've had to increase(or decrease depending on how you view it) their standards. They have to keep within certain benchmarks, and with all that reality TV and internet marketability, there's just too much opposition for fabulous exceptions such as Cindy; since yes, she would be an exception in today's age.

I will agree with her on everything she said, with the exception of the "big breasts" claim. Saw her in Playboy in the 90's and unless she has had them done since that time, she's a nice B-cup. Some might consider it large, I suppose. Isn't it awful that toned women are no longer seen as desirable in the fashion world?? Gross!

lies!
The sample size for models in the late 80s and early 90s was a size 6. In comparison, the sample size for runway now is a 0, as in zero. The model who recently made headlines for being released from her contract "ballooned" up to a size 4.
The industry is looking for a much smaller bidied, thinner model now.
what do you mean by 'seem smaller'? open your eyes! it's a bleeding anorexia party! no wonder 12-year olds are so neurotic these days.
Models have always been stick thin. But in the late 80s and early 90s, curvier models were the mode. Now it's back to Twiggy thin. Loved all those 90s models!
Cindy is one hot mama!
Back in the 90's there was two types of models, the curvy and the waif look and both could make money. Each has a certain appeal and really depends on what they are selling...
Cindy is the sexiest woman of all time.
