LANCE ARMSTRONG
‘The Armstrong Lie’ Documentary

the armstrong lie trailer

Here it is, the first documentary chronicling the rise and fall of cyclist Lance Armstrong. I actually prefer to watch a documentary over a dramatization, and I know Hollywood is working on a couple of versions of the movie. Alex Gibney created this documentary. He had been following Lance from his comeback after beating cancer to his success as a cyclist.

In other words, he has plenty of interviews with Lance lying about the doping allegations before he finally came clean. If I were to watch anything about Lance Armstrong, it would probably be this. I’m just not sure if I want to watch anything about him again or not. When he first confessed to doping, I was angry. Now I’m just sad and maybe ready to move on. I’m still curious, however. How do you feel about watching ‘The Armstrong Lie’?

Lance Armstrong Dines Out At Mastro's Restaurant

Lance Armstrong may be routinely referred to as a “disgraced cyclist,” but that’s not stopped him from stepping back into the limelight. Last night Lance stepped out in LA. He had dinner at Beverly Hills restaurant Mastro’s. Lance even signed autographs and posed for pics with fans.

What are your thoughts on Lance at the moment? I wasn’t sure what to think after watching him on ‘Oprah’s Next Chapter’ (full disclosure: I only saw the first night). But when he refused to be interviewed by the USADA again, saying he preferred to work with international tribunal instead, it made me think Lance isn’t doing all he could to make amends for all he’s done. I mean, Lance may be angry at the way they pursued him and banned him for life, but ultimately they were RIGHT. He was cheating. What a disappointment.

Bradley Cooper In Talks To Get On The Bike

19th Annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards

It turns out Bradley Cooper wasn’t just talking when he said he’d like to play Lance Armstrong in an upcoming biopic being produced by J.J. Abrams. J.J himself confirmed that Bradley had emailed him about the part. He said:

“[Bradley] sent me an email and we’ve been talking.”

Bradley and J.J. worked together before on ‘Alias,’ so they’re not strangers. I think Bradley would do great in the role. But honestly, is anyone interested in seeing a movie about Lance Armstrong? I’m not sure. These pictures are of Bradley from last night’s SAG Awards. It just looks like he fell victim to someone who was a smidgen heavy handed with the self-tanner. Doesn’t matter. He’s as hawt as ever!

QOTD: Sheryl Crow On Lance Armstrong

FFN_IMAGE_50026989|FFN_SET_60002097

Another celeb who used to be close to Lance Armstrong is coming forward. Matthew McConaughey opened up about his pal yesterday. Lance’s girlfriend of three years, singer Sheryl Crow, broke her silence on her ex, now that he’s admitted to doping to Oprah Winfrey. Sheryl said:

“[It's] got to be really hard to walk around knowing that you’re not telling the truth about something. I think that honesty is always the best bet and that the truth will set you free. To carry a weight like that around would be devastating in the long run…I always contend that the truth is the best way to go.”

Hmmm…I see what Sheryl means and all, but I can’t say I feel too badly for Lance having to carry around the secret that he was cheating, especially when I think about how aggressively he attacked all those who accused him. But I think it’s gracious of Sheryl not to throw her ex under the  bus.

QOTD: Matthew McConaughey On Lance Armstrong

Sundance Film Festival Celebs

For a while there, Matthew McConaughey and Lance Armstrong were seen hanging out quite a bit. They were even named Hollywood’s Favorite Bromance in 2008. And they both live in Austin, Texas. So what did Matthew think once Lance publicly admitted to doping?

“My first reaction was I was pi**ed off. I was mad. I then got kind of sad for him. First off, I had a part of me that took it kind of personally, which I think a lot of people have.

“What I realized is that those of us that took that personally, like, ‘Oh, he lied to me!’ That’s not true. What I mean by this is, what was he supposed to do? Call me to the side and go, ‘Hey man, I did it but don’t tell anybody.’ Then I would have really had a reason to be pissed off at him, going, ‘You want me to walk around holding this?’

“Where I am now is I’ve put myself out of the way and I am happy for this guy, who has now chosen to re-enter this new chapter of his life a truly free man. And the weight he had on his shoulders, without the boogieman under the bed, the skeleton in the closet that he’s carried for 14 years. Fourteen years he lied and carried the lie with him.

“Some people are never going to forgive him. You know the old line that Oprah said the other night, ‘The truth will set you free’? Yeah, but she forgot one part. It’s miserable in the beginning. And it’s going to be miserable. But he’s looking it in the eye, and he’ll handle it. He’ll deal. And he’s ready for how hard it’s going to be to deal.”

It sounds like, ultimately, Matthew is standing by his buddy. What do you think of Lance? Are you ready to forgive him?

Lance Armstrong ‘Fesses Up To Oprah

lance armstrong admits to doping

Lance Armstrong finally did it. The disgraced cyclist admitted to doping in an interview with Oprah Winfrey. It will air on a special episode of ‘Oprah’s Next Chapter‘ on Thursday evening on OWN. Oprah shared some details of the interview on ‘CBS This Morning.’ She said she wasn’t prepared to say anything before the interview aired but:

“by the time I left Austin and landed in Chicago, you all had already confirmed it. So I’m sitting here now because it’s already been confirmed.”

Oprah didn’t necessarily describe Lance as contrite during the interview but said “he met the moment.” Are you going to watch Lance’s interview? For me, it kind of feels like a train wreck: something I don’t necessarily want to see but feel compelled to watch. He’s facing more lawsuits as more organizations are suing him now that the doping allegations have been confirmed. If Lance did cheat, then he’s facing the consequences, but it’s sad to see a living legend fall like this.

Lance Armstrong Sued Over Doping Allegations Story

sunday times suing lance armstrong

And the hits just keep on coming for Lance Armstrong. In 2006, London’s The Sunday Times paid the cyclist about $550,000 (600,000 pounds) after Lance sued them for libel when they printed allegations about him doping. Now that the USADA has determined that Lance did, indeed, illegally use performance-enhancing drugs, The Sunday Times is suing him. The paper wrote a letter to Lance’s lawyers and published some excerpts.

“It is clear that the proceedings were baseless and fraudulent. Your representations that you had never taken performance enhancing drugs were deliberately false. The Sunday Times is now demanding a return of the settlement payment plus interest.”

The paper is suing for more than $1.6 million. Well, you can’t really blame the paper, can you?
