Gwyneth Paltrow Sought Advice For Handling Long-Term Relationships

Gwyneth Paltrow, who has been married to Chris Martin for five years (quite a stretch by Hollywood standards), shared what she has learned about long-term relationships.
A long-term relationship between two people is an ever evolving organism. Some stay the course, some fall, all stumble."
And now, before you wonder what makes Gwyneth an expert, she shares advice she got from other people.
Monica Berg, a spiritual teacher and creative director at the Kabbalah Center in Los Angeles, wrote:
What helps sustain a relationship is continuing to put as much effort into nourishing it as we did finding it. Blind dating, online dating, double dating – we put ourselves through every imaginable uncomfortable situation, and once we get married, it is almost as if it’s another item crossed off our checklist. Married, check. Children, check. Career, check. Very often we have a romanticized idea in mind as to what our lives will be like after we get married, one that’s often not based in reality."
That sounds pretty accurate to me, actually.
Gwyneth also got advice from Dr. Karen Binder-Brynes and Cynthia Bourgeault. If you're interested in reading the entire entry, click here.
At least Gwyneth didn't just write up the advice as if she thought of it! What do you think?

Gwyneth Paltrow Is Clean

I'm sure Gwyneth Paltrow is always clean, of course, but she just completed a three-week detox program called the "Clean" detox, so I'm just playing with words ;) Gwyneth blogged about it on her GOOP website.
As I write this, I am finishing the amazing three-week-long "Clean" detox program detailed below... this program allowed me to work and exercise regularly, something I cannot do if I am on a liquid-only detox.
I feel pure and happy and much lighter (I dropped the extra pounds that
I had gained during a majorly fun and delicious "relax and enjoy life
phase" about a month ago).I also really enjoyed learning about the incredible health benefits of resting your digestive system, etc."
Gwyneth provides more information about her detox, including who designed it, in her newsletter, which you can read here.
What do you think about detox diets? Have you ever tried one, and if so, what was it like?

A Different Interpretation Of The Fairy Tale Princess

And they lived happily ever after...
Well, not always!
Someone decided that Disney's interpretation of princess themed stories was not always accurate. To rectify this, they staged what it would really be like for these gals if they lived in the real world.
The project was inspired by my observation of three-year-old girls, who were developing an interest in Disney's Fairy tales. As a new mother I have been able to get a close up look at the phenomenon of young girls fascinated with Princesses and their desire to dress up like them. The Disney versions almost always have sad beginning, with an overbearing female villain, and the end is predictably a happy one. The Prince usually saves the day and makes the victimized young beauty into a Princess.
As a young girl, growing up abroad, I was not exposed to Fairy tales. These new discoveries lead to my fascination with the origins of Fairy tales. I explored the original brothers Grimm's stories and found that they have very dark and sometimes gruesome aspects, many of which were changed by Disney. I began to imagine Disney's perfect Princesses juxtaposed with real issues that were affecting women around me, such as illness, addiction and self-image issues.
War, a husband who doesn't help out, death, addicted to surgery, battling cancer, an eating addiction - all very real concepts. What do you this about the photo spread? I get that they are trying to be artistic and many woman find issues with the concept that a man always has to save the woman...
But when my daughter accidentally saw this picture, she got very sad and asked me what was wrong with Snow White. I don't think we should take anything away from our kids and this is erasing some of the magic. Just a thought...
