For REDBOOK's February cover star, Ashley Judd, recovering from the hidden pain of her past means finding the strength to face the world's darkest suffering -- and follow her passion to help end it. The actress -- who is currently at Harvard working on a masters in public administration -- and star of the upcoming movie Tooth Fairy, opens up about being a 41 year-old grad student, how her childhood affected her grown-up life and life with husband Dario Franchitti.
On how her work as a global advocate for HIV-infected youth sparked her decision to go back to school: "My hope with the education is to have a finer, more nuanced understanding of the context in which I'm working as an actress and an activist. I really enjoy my life as it is, advocacy and art, moving between the two."

On the affect of staying home alone as a child while her mom and sister were gone touring the country: "One's life can inform activism in a powerful way. What I grew up with was not so healthy, and I'm now flipping that. I have the ability to make something healthy out of it."
On her strengths as an activist: "I think the gift of empathy I have, and the ability to listen to emotional extremes, my real commitment to witnessing without flinching and bringing those stories back, that's where my usefulness lies. And advocacy and helping to shape policy, whether it's speaking at the United Nations and helping lawmakers or raising awareness and shaping public opinion."
Salma Hayek Enjoys Star Studded Wedding Festivities
Salma Hayek's wedding to Francois-Henri Pinault is shaping up to be quite an affair (although not a $2 million extravaganza, according to the bride)! Woody Harrelson, Salma's ex, Ed Norton, Olivier Martinez, and Antonio Banderas have all been spotted in Venice to attend Salma's wedding. (Salma and Francois-Henri legall married at a city hall in Paris on Valentine's Day.)
The rehersal dinner took place in the historic Punta Della Dogana and was a masked ball! The French President and his wife were reportedly invited, along with Penelope Cruz and Ashley Judd. Salma and Francois-Pinault's one-year-old daughter, Valentina, also attended the masked ball.
All the guests wore black Venetian masks.

Celebrities Attend Sundance Film Festival 2009
Celebrities are spotted walking up and down Main St. in Park City, visiting gift shops, restaurants, and the ski lift at the Sundance Film Festival 2009. Mariah Carey, a more refined looking Nick Cannon, Paris Hilton with her new BFF, Nicky Hilton, Jamie Lynn Sigler, Elijah Wood, Parker Posey and Ashley Judd are all in town to enjoy the festitivies.

Ashley Judd's Mission
Ashely Judd wore a Hindu Tilaka made of pearl on her forehead, at the world premiere screening of the National Geographic Channel documentary 'India's Hidden Plague: Ashley Judd's Mission' in Washington DC. This cause is near and dear to her heart. Ashley has contributed to AIDS awareness for several years now. This documentary is just the latest of a string of effort put forth by this movie star with a heart.
Far away from her glamorous life in Hollywood she is on a journey to Mumbai in India in her role as Global Ambassador for Youth AIDS and Population Services International (PSI). This is a city of shocking contrasts, where extreme poverty sits next to huge wealth, the poor next to millionaires. It's a place where HIV is rife. Ashley's mission becomes a rollercoaster of emotions as she meets the people for whom AIDS has deeply affected their lives. They tell their stories candidly and openly, Ashley hopes that by doing this she can take those stories and experiences back to a world that might take notice.

The always fresh and lovely Ashely Judd enjoyed the 'Peak Antifreeze Indy 300' auto race at Chicagoland Speedway with her husband Dario Franchitti. For those of you, like me, that are fans of Ashley's you'll be happy to know that she has a movie called, "Crossing Over" coming out November 7th. Can't wait to see what she wears to the premiere...
Ashley Judd Doing Great Things In India
Ashley Judd spent the day at a local community group for women in India. She began her mission earlier this month to help promote AIDS awareness in the country. Ashley is a spokesperson for Population Services International. She is a wonderful woman helping a great cause.
Ashley Judd Visits India
Ashley Judd represented Population Services International, a Washington-based nonprofit organization, during her week long visit to India to promote awareness about HIV/AIDS. When I posted shots of Angelina Jolie in Chad, many of those who commented said the only reason why celebrities do charity work like this is to get the press. I am curious to see if you feel the same way when someone like Ashley Judd takes part in such a great cause?
